Oh, it works, I also just got my new remotes for my factory remote start too. I think it was $160.00 can't remember cause it took almost a month to recieve from gmpartsdirect.com . I just have to find time to go get the truck flashed and BAM it will work. It's Great for the north-west. The funny thing is, that there is nothing to install on the truck. It was just new remotes with an extra button.

The dealer may not be able to do it as you have to buy some extra part which gives a number to assign to the truck and their techline'll have some other code to activate it.

I was quoted around 300 including labor...Must be some slowass techs there as they say it'll take about 3-4 hours to reprogram the BCM in the TB to accept the replacement radio they ordered (which is not even the problem, passenger side speaker is blown).

I went in today finally! Only 43 bucks, howed that happen? Some optimism??? Oh 30 mins too.

I have the DIC from the factory and personally I'm not sure I would pay $100 to add it to my truck. Everything you get from it is available elsewhere except the transmission temperature. The mileage estimates and instant fuel mileage seems "off" to me as well.

Not sure where you're getting the info from... this is what I was able to get before the DIC:

-odometer

-trip odometer

-Oil life remaining

-transmission temperature

-Engine hours

-relearn tire positions

-relearn remote key

Now I also get avg economy, fuel used, timer, individual tire pressure, auto door lock settings, auto door unlock settings, remote door lock settings, remote door unlock settings, exit lighting, approach lighting...

Yeah is that extra stuff really worth an extra $100? The avg economy and fuel used seem off on my truck. Tire pressure? Possibly if you don't like the default light settings might be the only reason. If your happy with the stock light settings I don't see how getting air pressure in a truck tire is worth $100.

Just me tho, each his own.

Holy cow that was easy. No tools needed. Just your bare hands and maybe something like a car key to get the old light switch out.

Trust me, very cool and EXTREMELY easy mod. Thanks, gang.

I still have my old panel without the cutout for the DIC. You wanna trade? I'd love to have an extra. LOL.

Well, not exactly....AFM status, engine hours, fuel consumed, ave MPG, and calculations based on this data is not available without a DIC.

Have watched the DIC data carefully since installing. Has been dead-on accurate for fuel consumed between fill-ups. Odometer is accurate on mine. The rest is just math. I also see fluctuations in projected cruising range depending on current driving conditions. Can see how this would appear inacurate if alternating beween city & highway driving. Takes some time for the math to catch up with driving conditions.

I just purchased a 2008 Sierra Z71 Duramax yesterday. I really wanted the DIC, but I didn't want to fork over 50k+ for the SLT.

Does anyone know if the dash is the same for the 2007 and 2008. I seem to remember when I looked at the 2008 SLT, the DIC was on the right side of the wheel. It also had all that other Nav stuff. I don't need that, just the DIC.

Thanks

Added DIC last night when I got home...Took a whole 10 minutes being careful with the switches and installation of the new unit... Couldnt be happier with the new DIC. If all the modes would be that simple....and inexpensive. Great site and people on here willing to share their knowledge..

did you have to use a screw driver or anything, or just start from top left of panel and pull ?

mine is suppose to be here monday Nov.5

i just don't want to break anything.

I took my time and eased the top left corner off first and then worked my way around toward the middle with my hands pulling the cover away from the dash ...It does break lose but I was worried it would break also. I used a small blade screw driver to release plastic locks on switches...Putting new unit on, I reversed how I took cover off ... used a thin blade screw driver to slightly pry up on the new cover while sliding cover edges behind lower panel.

When you see the back of the DIC piece, you'll see how easy it is to get it on and off.

Some of you over think this project, yet it is fun to watch.

Simply, just grab that peice of the dash and pull it off! You won't break anything! Unplug the components with two tweeker tools, (that's) the hardest part. Then plug in the new one and don't over think the rest. Just put the new piece back in opposite as you took the old one out. Don't be a puss. It will fit in.
