I'm going to try cutting the switch in myself also. I'm buying the switch for $12 and if it looks bad I bet I can find some one with a blank one and try again. I've done alot of custom cutting on atv fenders and can make them look factory, I think this will be a breeze. My switch should be here thurs. or fri.

So how do you get the timer to work? I have tried pushing the check mark button and holding it down, but nothing!

I do not know. I have purposely avoided resetting that and the gallons used. For all I know, they won't reset. I just like the idea of being able to look and see how long the engine has run and how many gallons I have used.

I think you go to the timer and hold it down until it starts then let off , but dont quote me on that. To reset the gallons used go to that setting and then hold the check mark button down until it goes back to zero. I think you manual tells you how to use all the DIC controls ( That sounds bad ) :D:lol::lol:

HOLY PITA!!!

You have to cut from the back to line up with clips, but cut from the front for nice finish!? Then after 1.5hr. the cutout looks decent but I got enamel off one of my tools on dash pannel, try to clean it off and it leaves a shiny spot. If I can get it clean I'll be happy with it. 2nd try would be much easier, I could make a template and do it all from the front but that kind of defeats the purpose. I say to anyone else thinking to try this "buy it and save the headache!" Most DIY'ers will have high blood pressure at best by the time they're done with this! Well that's my $.02

Looks pretty good from what I can see. I agree though, if you were saving hundreds of dollars, maybe. Saving 60 bucks, not a chance.

Wow, thanks for this post! I've been searching all over trying to find a way to add the DIC to my 2008 Sierra SLE.

A quick question though, is the dash plate the same for both the Sierra and the Silverado? Meaning, will the part linked to work for both? And is 2007 and 2008 the same? I am searching for the part number and will post when I find it. again Great find

Awesome and easy (I'm no mechanic), great upgrade for the cost. It took all of 10 minutes to install, operation and access to all kinds of info just as easy. Why GMC doesn't just have it as a standard item is strange, add $10 to the price of the truck. (maybe there is a meathod to the madness because we all bought one for $80+)

Anyway.. THANKS DADDY.. GMC ought to be giving you a few freebee's for selling the heck out of their DIC's..

hmmm. I see all posts for the price to be $80--$100 and I just ordered my dash panel and switch for $45....I guess the dealership has some markup too.

Must be nice. My dealer wants $95 for the switch or $165 for the panel.

I added the Dic switch this weekend.Switch was 25.00 w/shipping.I cut the panel out myself.I figure i saved about 75.00 bucks not bad for one hour of my time. That is one tank of gas!The Dic showed that i had used 400 gallons of gas since new,Need to reset this before the wife see's it.Anyway I want to thank Daddy and everyone else who regulary posts their ideas , problems and solutions. This is one great site. Can't stay away.
