2007 SLE DIC Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I just got my new 2008 Sierra a couple weeks ago and so far I Love it! It has the 5.3 with AFM, 4.10 gears and the chrome appearance package from GM which includes the Grill, step bars and mirror caps. It also came with the 20 inch aluminum wheels. I have been reading this forum general information since I bought the truck and have ordered the DIC upgrade parts as well as a tonneau cover and a Line X is going to be sprayed on this week.

There sure are a lot of knowledgeable people here and some very sweet looking trucks from the pictures people are sharing. I haven't taken many pictures yet but I did try adding one to my avtar, hopefully it works! :chevy: (it seems a bit over exposed)

I will let you know how the upgrade goes when my parts arrive, and I'll try to post a better pic when I get a chance.

Thanks to all for the great information and ideas.

Ordered my DIC components form GMParsDirect.com for $55.44 for the DIC unit cluster and the dash panel.

I placed the order on April 10th and it arrived on April 23rd.

Here is the inside of the DIC panel:

The buttons simply pushed into the hole in the new panel.

Installed front:

The old panel was easy to remove, just pull gently and firmly around all the edges.

Old panel pulled from truck with harnesses attached:

The harness on the upper left is the 4-pin connector for the DIC which sits in false socket. The harness on the lower right is to the lighting control module:

The harnesses were removed and the lighting module was transfered to the new panel. Used a screw driver to help pry the retaining clips from the lighting module.

New panel with DIC buttons and lighting module installed and harnesses attached:

Install complete:

Everything went smoothly. Full installation took about five minutes. Fired up the truck and everything worked.

A few thoughts/comments/questions:

Works fine on the 4.8

I don't see a screen for real-time mileage (only for average).

When I turn on the truck, the DIC is blank until I press a button.

I know this was a little over detailed for something as simple as this. Hope it helps someone.

I think you only get real time milage with afm.

Nice How-To

I just did mine last week and it's not there. The screens I have now are;

-Odometer

-Trip

-Fuel Range

-Average Economy

-Fuel Used

-Timer

-Trans Temp

-Oil Life Remaining

-Units (English/Metric)

-Front Tires PSI

-Rear Tires PSI

-Trailer Gain

-Engine Hours

-Relearn Tire Positions

-Display Language

-Exit Lighting

-Approach Lighting

-Chime Volume

-Restore Factory Settings

If anyone wants a standard dash panel to play around with, I'm selling mine on ebay.

"Can be used as a back up or replacement for a scratched/damaged panel, or put a chain through the A/C vent and wear it as a stylish necklace."

Now that's funny.

Hello All,

A Question for those of you that made the leap, has the addition of the instant MPG, or AFM indicator changed or altered your driving to get better mileage? My truck is a WT model and I'm generally a simple man but there are only minor clues when your in 4 vs. 8 cylinder mode.

Thanks!

I added this function and I really like it. I pretty much leave it showing the instant mpg and I've noticed that if I can see what a heavy foot is doing to my mpg that I tend to light foot it to keep the mpg's higher.

I hate my DIC

Damn thing makes me realize how hard on the mileage I am. I can't even go > 80mph or tear off from stop lights anymore.

That was the coolest thing when she got her 07 Impala.

So, I added my DIC yesterday. I can't believe that this just isn't included...stupid GM.

Anyway, thanks to all for the info on this forum!

I can't believe it's so simple...but the one thing I did get a kick out of, is the GM instuctions that come with it. 19 steps total, that basically include removal of ALL the panels around this one...which includes disconnecting the E-brake cable to remove the bottom panel. What a waste time it would be to do it that way!!!

I just bought mine from a GM parts dept. in the area (southern Alberta, Canada)...they are carrying them as regular stock as a lot of others are learning about this, and it takes 10+ business days to order in!

But call around! Every dealership has a different price!

And I do have AFM, and the Instant Fuel is active on mine...

I just ordered my DIC upgrade, I hope I don't break anything pulling the old panel off.

Not unless you try prying it with a crowbar or something...The clips are metal so unless they've rusted together or otherwise has been fused by welding, super glue, heat, etc they won't break easily. It'll take a bit of force to get it out, but I did it without breaking anything or cracking any plastic...I did scrape the edges a bit but not really noticeable at all.

I got it on about a week ago. Only took 5 min. and half of that was getting the old light switch out of the old one. :troll:
