Thanks Daddy for the post I'm new to this forum but not to GM! I just got my 08 Silverado LT on 06/17/08 and I checked and there is a plug back there. I will be calling the local dealers to see who has it in stock. I was bummed that I didn't have the DIC at first. Now if only I could get the remote start.

i got my DIC switch last week and installed it in a few minutes. unfortunately, gm parts direct canceled the dash trim, so i had the switch and not the proper trim. i know a few people had been talking about cutting the opening in the old piece, so I went ahead and gave it a shot. i consider myself a pretty handy person so i got the dremel out and went to town. i think i did about the best job i could and it still looks like shite, so i would recommend to everyone just to by the correct piece for $25 and have it looking like it belongs.

it sounds like mine was canceled because they discontinued the old part #. i need to look further into it though because i want to reorder the part and scrap the old one i cut out.

Well Daddy, I finally got my part back today. It was actually the exact same one they shipped before. I looked under their shipping label and found where I wrote a return address on the box. Anyway, pulled panel off, removed DIC plug and headlight module, placed headlight module in new panel, plugged in DIC, snapped new panel back in Whala! Five minutes and I have access to everything Tire Pressure, Trip, Instant Fuel mileage, engine hours, Oil life, set up entry and exit lighting options, door lock options, chime volume etc. I love it!!!! Thanks daddy.

Where do you find the Instant Fuel Milage? I can only find Average Fuel Economy!

Maybe cause its a 4.8L?

I stand corrected...Your right blackbay....I only get the average as well....I believe that is the only thing I dont get other than v4 mode like my wifes tahoe due to having the 4.8 as well...Maybe the instant is only for the 5.3l with v4mode..bet ya....

Well, first off I want to thank Daddy for starting this thread and opening everyones eyes to this upgrade. I also want to thank BloodRedSilverado for showing the cheaper way to get this install. I just wanted to tell everyone that I ordered the panel and switch separetly but both on gmpartsdirect.com With shipping it came out to be $55.00. Now I did just buy this truck, but I can gaurantee that I will never, ever find as sweet an upgrade for 55 bucks as we all have here. Supremely easy install and another satisfied DIC upgrade!!

This is correct. The 4.8's don't have AFM, so you will not get instant economy on the DIC.

Daddy,

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. This is by far the best and easiest mod I have stumbled across. I was kind of disappointed when I bought my truck because it did not have the DIC on it. I will order the switch and then try to cut out the whole...all I can say is that I hope I have the patience to do that fine cutting.

Thanks again.

Miramballer,

I found the switches on gmpartsdirect, but there are two. One for the Sierra and one for the Silverado.

Description Year MSRP Price Your Price

Switch, silverado 2007 $23.61 $14.00

Switch, sierra 2007 $43.72 $25.92

I am not sure why the Silverado switch is more expensive. I am assuming that they are the same switches, so why is one more expensive? I have a Sierra, so I should be able to order the Silverado switch and it will work just the same...correct?

Thanks...I just don't want to order something that will not work.

I am also having trouble locating the panel to order on gmpartsdirect.

A little help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

    • I wonder as well, why they would send me a text message with links to these suggested procedures totalling over $10,000 without even the slightest hint of how they arrived at these being necessary.
    • https://precisionlubrication.com/articles/oil-filter-efficiency/     For them it is a problem of $$$$ and compliance. To cover both they have to lie from the heart.    Government wants low waste oil numbers so the bar needs to be very low on contamination to met that requirement.  Consumer wants cheap maintenance (perceived cost). Again requiring a low bar.  OEM wants high margins at a cost effective warranty rate and lots of repeat customers. More low bar.  Filter manufacture wants the same thing the OEM wants. See the pattern?   Consumers are fickle and also want perfection requiring a HIGH bar. Inconsistent with all of the above. Consumers can be, when the put their minds to it, inquisitive, love winning arguments which requires some useful information to be available to support them. And this is where it gets sticky and the lies begin.    Information needs a solid well grounded point of reference if we are to compare in a useful way. There is a standard for this.  ISO 4548-12. This standard sets the particle size at a specific Beta ratio and darn few are faithful to its intent.    If they don't state the test method they change the particle size or the Beta ratio to hit a perceived favorable standard. They obscure the information in a way as to prevent direct comparisons leaving the consumer with one method. UOA's with an ISO 4406 test result. Pricey and not allot of labs willing to do the work. Lobby work happens everywhere, not just at the seat of government.

    • Good Morning Gents..hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful saturday morning. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra that I bought used in 2018. I am the 2nd owner and its a beautiful truck. Ive put about 60,000 miles on it and recently the front end has felt funny. Kind of loose when hitting bumps adn sometimes I actually feel a "bang" in the steering wheel. I took it to a local guy who said that everything was tight and he tightened the steering box. It didnt feel much better, so I had him replace the front shocks, which had noto been done since I bought it. It had the check enging light on so I took it into a local garage to fix that and check out the suspension. Everything is original and the rubber bushings that I can see look bad. They said everything was tight and there wasnt any play in the front end. Im concerned about the banging feeling in the wheel. Ive been driving this truck for 8 years, so I know how it usually feels and this is something new. Its a second vehicle, so I dont drive it all the time, but Im trying to use it more often. I live out in the country and some of the  roads are kind of rough and I alive on gravel roads. Anyone deal with anything like this before?
    • Yes of course. There’s no experience in the Trump organization in hiring contractors. it’s not like they’re experienced in that field.😆
