2007 SLE DIC Upgrade

I'm going to try cutting the switch in myself also. I'm buying the switch for $12 and if it looks bad I bet I can find some one with a blank one and try again. I've done alot of custom cutting on atv fenders and can make them look factory, I think this will be a breeze. My switch should be here thurs. or fri.

Good Luck. Make sure to post pics of the results.

HOLY PITA!!!

You have to cut from the back to line up with clips, but cut from the front for nice finish!? Then after 1.5hr. the cutout looks decent but I got enamel off one of my tools on dash pannel, try to clean it off and it leaves a shiny spot. If I can get it clean I'll be happy with it. 2nd try would be much easier, I could make a template and do it all from the front but that kind of defeats the purpose. I say to anyone else thinking to try this "buy it and save the headache!" Most DIY'ers will have high blood pressure at best by the time they're done with this! Well that's my $.02

Looks like a noble effort! I still have my original panel, that I replaced with the DIC panel, in a box in the garage... still like new. I'd give it to you try again if you want it. Seriously. I can't think of a use for it myself. Doubt it would cost much to USPS to you, its pretty light weight. I have to agree though, that unless you were really skilled in this area, the bucks you might save would not offset the grief of trying this. Maybe if you were stranded on a desert island with your truck, and this DIC switch just happened to float ashore one day... then, yeah, I could see it.

Here are the pics. As I explained, it is very simple to do this as evident by the fact that I basically just did it again in order to take these pics.

This is the old piece of dash.

The red arrow shows the cable that is already there now attached to the switch.

Now for the new piece with the switch installed.

There are many more screens but here's a shot of the way the display is now used.

I hope this is enough to get the point across.

Did I mention that the switch is also back-lit to match everything else in the truck when the lights are on?

Where did you find your unused cable/plug on the left side? I ordered the DIC Upgrade for my 07 Sierra SLE and cannot find the cable/plug lol? Can you help me?

Ya gotcha after I went back out and took a closer look  My DIC upgrade arrives in a few days I purchased the dash panel and switch from my dealership and paid 110.00 including taxes!!

Wow, thanks for this post! I've been searching all over trying to find a way to add the DIC to my 2008 Sierra SLE.

A quick question though, is the dash plate the same for both the Sierra and the Silverado? Meaning, will the part linked to work for both? And is 2007 and 2008 the same? I am searching for the part number and will post when I find it. again Great find

Thanks

So I ordered one for my 08 Sierra SLE also and awaiting arrival. Did you get yours installed and working correctly? Just curious. Thanks.

i don't get it.. .Why pay $100 when you can get it for less than $50 shipped by ordering to your door. I paid $98 for TWO Panels with TWO switches shipped...Maybe I'm the only one looking to save a buck??

Here's an idea. Those of us who paid $100 were not aware that this panel could be bought for half of what we spent. Now are you going to at least tell the ones who haven't done this mod yet where they can buy a panel/switch for $49?

I ordered mine from gmparts direct almost 2 weeks ago and I can't even get a reply from customer service, tried to email twice. They show the Paypal pending, guess they will accept payment when they have it to ship. I'm waiting impatiently.

Be very leary of them, there website said you can not cancel an order after placing it. It took 2 weeks for me to get a reply from them, they finall cancelled the order. Personaly I would never do buisness with them again, they wasted 3 weeks of my time.

Here's my idea, it doesn't take a genious  However... If you go to one of the popular websites that sells gmparts , I'm sure you will find it there. Hint Hint. gmpartsdirect maybe??

I ordered one for me and a buddy, and had it here in 3 days. I don't see why others are having a problem ordering from gmpd, because I just ordered mine last week. Unless maybe i ordered the last two they had in stock?
