Looking at buying a 2000 Silverado 2WD

What is the towing capacity with a 2000 Silverado 2WD ext cab for both the 4.8L and the 5.3L? Also are there any problems with this year truck. I've heard of some of the newer models having the piston slap, the steering clunk, etc. Just wondering if this truck had those or any other problems to look out for. Thanks in advance as always!

Do it. The 2000 was an awesome model. Mine is till going strong with 126k. My O2 sensors are going out, but that's about it. No steering wheel clunk, only a tick at times when I start the motor up in the morning.

My 2000 has 108000 miles on it and no big problems. Keeps running strong! Probably needs O2 sensors also as my mileage has dropped a bit.

This truck does have the 4.8L V8. Does anyone know the towing capacity or where I could find that number? Also how doe I tell what the rear end axle ratio is? Is it etched on the diff? Can you tell by the VIN, 2GCEC19V9Y1353161 ?

the rear end ratio is a RPO in the glove box. towing capacity should be in the owners manual

Yea, look in the glovebox for one of these codes:

 

GU4 = 3.08 Ratio

GU5 = 3.23 Ratio

GU6 = 3.42 Ratio

GT4 = 3.73 Ratio

GT5 = 4.10 Ratio
