Is Rear Ac Necessary?

We're a family of 8, first (and only) mini-van did not have rear hear or AC. Next vechicle was a Safari with rear heat....that helped a lot for the kids in the winter.

My current ride (YukonXL) has climate control for front and rear. Wouldn't have another passenger vechicle without both.

Without the rear AC, the passengers in the back will not be comfortable on hot days....and you'll freeze keeping the AC on high to try to cool the back.

Go with the rear AC. ;)

I know on my 98 tahoe, if I didnt run the rear AC on hot days, when I hit the breaks i would get a roll effect of hot air. It only happend a few times bc it pissed me off so bad. I know that i missed haveing rear heat on my 98 too, but it wasnt available on them.

I'm in the market for a 98 or 99 Chevy Tahoe. I've seen some that don't have rear AC. Will I regret it?

I had dual heat and AC on my Suburban and my wifes Denali, used it all the time. Sold both vehicles when gas hit $ 3.00 per gallon. On long trips with only 2 on board I would use the rear AC for comfort and less noise up front while leaving the front AC on low. It was just less intrusive. Just purchased a 2002 Tahoe as an extra / Tow vehicle to have at the house with only front AC and Heat. Great deal so I bought it and think I may be unhappy come Summer.

Good Luck with yours.

It doesnt even have the front controlls for the rear ac/head? weird, didnt even know they did that. My 02 only has controlls for it up front, my 98 had controlls front and rear.

If its just me and the wife I don't turn on the rear heat (currently) and I've felt cooler air on the back of my neck when I go to back up...lol. I'm sure the same thing will happen when using the a/c

My rear HVAC controls are in the front, but I thought that was due to the sliding sunroof being in the way to put them farther back by the dome light

Where do you live? I live in Seattle, we had one without and the only problem was going skiing, you had to run the defrost full to get heat to the rear.
