What kind of a job is this? Something I should attempt?

Thanks,

Ryan

believe it or not an owl (yep, an owl) flew into it at about 2am one morning....

The mirror as a whole isn't too hard to replace, the glass itself is even easier. The glass fell off (yep, just fell off) of my 99 one day, so I picked it up and pushed it back on, and it stayed. To replace the whole assembly I believe you have to take the door panels off from the inside (maybe just the top triangle piece) and there are some nuts that you take off behind it to remove the mirror.

The glass is the only thing that is broken - I believe. The blinker still works even. How do I get it out to replace it?

Check out this website:

They sell after-market mirrors. They have an excellent installation guide that you can download that will explain how to get the mirror off.

As in the previous posts, it's not difficult to get the glass out of the housing. It's basically snapped in place.

Your best bet would be to take out as much of the broken parts as possible, then pry the rest of it off (carefully, don't break the plastic behind it). When you get all the mirror off, clean off the adhesive that was on there. Then put the new one on using mirror adhesive, which you should be able to find at any windshield repair shop. Oh, and be sure to get a new mirror.

So the mirror must rest within a plastic framework of some sort? And this is in turn attached to the mounting apparatus that allows it to be adjusted? How does the blinker mix in to all of this? The mirror itself must have a power source.

Thanks,

Didn't notice that you had a blinker...not sure how that works. On mine the mirror was just glued onto a plastic plate of sorts, and I was just able to put it back on there. Yours might be more difficult.

The mirror will have 2 connectors on the back. One for the turn signal, and one for the heated mirror (assuming you have that).

Simply unplug the connectors when you get the mirror off.

I received the mirror.

If I simply pull out on the old one the tabs will 'let go' and it will pop out?

I'm not worried about breaking the old one - just breaking whatever the mirror fits into.

Thanks,

Yes, the mirror will pop out. Follow the directions posted on the website I mentioned in a earlier post.

I hope this isn't a hijack, but are all units pre-wired for the mirror turn signal? In other words, if this member had a regular mirror, could he have replaced it with this one with the turn signal?

Great - Thanks. I didn't look hard enough. :D It should be very helpful.

RYAN..............No need to remove door panel to take off complete

mirror unit. (But its easier to replace the mirror glass on the

bench). Just remove the little triangle trim piece above the door

panel on the top right corner. it just snaps off................

I have done a few!!!!!!!!!!!
