Tow/haul Mode

I have a NBS Crew Cab 6.0L 3.73...

I tow a Boat about 2 miles in my development around 25 mph with 3 stop signs and then 1 mile on the road about 45mph to the ramp... it seams when it is in tow/haul mode the engine is racing to much in a high rpm when i'm in the development.... should I just keep it off on these trips?

btw the boat weights 4000 w/trailer

I been towing my work trailer with the tow/haul mode off mostly since it only weights 1500 lbs.....

Keeping the engine higher in the power-band won't hurt it.

In the end, it's easier on your transmission.

I would keep it on.

Check your owners manual, I think mine said to turn it on if the trailer is at least 70 or 75 % of the max trailer weight for your truck.

I think you are under that!

It also says that it will not hurt anything to use Tow/Haul with less weight. Too bad they did not put a 4.10 rear end in that Max Tow Pkg.

I agree with Seamonster. My 02 owner's manual instructs you to use it when towing 65% or more of the max tow weight. I would also agree with Randy, it will not hurt anything but will likely offer little benefit if you are towing only 1/2 of your max weight.

However, what Patrick said is true. If you are pulling a good amt of weight, do not worry about the increased RPMs, these motors like to rev and have a "sweet spot" they like to run in. The T/H mode will help your transmission while towing.

If I'm in town and below 40 MPH while pulling my boat...turn it off and put it in 3rd.

All tow/haul does is increase shift points and line pressure which is great for highway but, winds it out too much around town.

Use common sense and you'll be fine.
