Avatars & Image Hosting

A lot of you guys have already realise that if you have pictures hosted on geocities they arn't working anymore. The reason this is is because they don't get paid to do this by there sponsors and it has been putting a load on them. For those of you who need a new place to host your pictures I suggest http://www.photopoint.com. They work great.

For everyone who has an avatar that is showing up as an bow with an X in it, PLEASE try to put an image in there that will work, or at least go to your profile and select the "No Avatar" option. This will make the site a little easier on the eyes. If you don't know how to do this then don't worry, I will be making a help file that explains this in detail with pictures. Thanx!

I tried the Photpoint thingy. Works pretty good. I don't really like the name added to your picture.

Does that mean geocities will be like that from now on? I hope not. I like to post pictures form time to time and I don't want to have to have a seperate site just for posting pics.

Yeah, geocities won't be doing that anymore. If you don't like the photopoint.com thing over your picture then I suggest signing up for an account at netfirms. They are great and they will let you link pictures from them. Thats what GM-TC uses as you can tell from the top of the page. We will probably be upgrading to professional soon though.

Is netfirms for businesses only, or can you have just a personal site there?

it says it is for business on the top of this page, but it is really for everyone. I also realised that I have like 4 accounts open with them. Since I want the moderators to have a good appearance and look good I can host them for you, or open up one that all of you can FTP into and upload your files. Your image path would then look something like this.... http://gmtrucks1.netfirms.com/images....

Does

this sound like a good idea? This way your images would ALWAYS load, and they would be very fast and reliable.

Yeah, maybe I could put my signature picture and avatar on there. I didn't seem to understand how to work that netfirm site. I also don't have Frontpage to upload stuff with. That stuff was kinda over my head. LOL

no prob, do you know how to use FTP programs?? if not just email me your avatar, and signature picture. I looked and the accounts are only good for 25 MB, so I can give all the mods space for their avatar and sign. picture and thats pretty much all. let me know

I know nothing about FTP. I don't even know what it stands for. LOL! That is why I liked using geocities, cause it was easy. I can still use photopoint to post regular pics, so I'll e-mail you the avatar and sig pic. BTW, my sig pic is not too large is it?
