Muffler Choices

I would like to replace the stock muffler on my 07 classic 4.8l. I am looking for a smooth deep tone that is in between stock and flowmasters 40 series in volume. A little lower note during idle and then a little more agressive on take off and acceleration. Would it be a good idea to go up to 3" before the muffler and out the back? I am trying to decide on flowmasters 50 series or magnaflows XL turbo, which is much cheaper, or any other suggestions. Will a larger muffler and pipes give me a lower note or just more volume or both?? thanks, BF

can anyone compare magnaflows tone to flowmasters? thanks

I really like my magnaflow, worth every penny for a stainless steel catback that will never rust through.

Sounds like you need Magnaflow, no drone, quiet idle, loud when you give it the gas, and it wont rust out on you. You can find some Magnaflow mufflers for a good price on performancepeddler.com :flag:

Highly recommend magnaflow as well. Had a custom 3 inch exhaust with the smallest magnaflow muffler available on my 05 Chevy and it sounded awesome with no drone. It was extremely easy to live with but at WOT you could hear that truck from quite a distance away. I received alot of compliments on the sound.

Hey guys, I've researched a little about muffler choices and replacement because for some time I had also a problem with my GMC muffler until I contacted our local auto shop. I hope this would help…

I've learned that Polished Stainless Steel Double Wall Tips have a big look even with a smaller core. They stay cooler and resist discoloration. A great choice to complete your custom exhaust. The new tips have a 15 degree angle cut to them and the MagnaFlow logo on the top side. The logo isn't really that visible (depending on how clean they are).

I have had a Corsa exhaust on my Denali since I bought it in '02. It has been great. Quiet in the truck, no drone, and sounds great when you get into the loud pedal.

i must be odd... i'm looking for a very deep low rumble below 2k RPM and only a moderate increase in sound over stock on acceleration... definitely don't want the loud popping sound alot of mufflers have as RPMs drop off after acceleration!

i'd like to add a muffler & then downturned tips, dumping in front of axle or turning out in front of right rear wheel

any suggestions on brand/model???

*is it true the longer the pipes past the muffler, the louder the exhaust note?

I bought my truck with a ractive exhaust i think? Or maybe its ractive tips. Anyways, its a great sounding kit, and its got a real low barely rumbling, its real close to a stock idle sound, but when you take off its loud and crusing around you know you have a dual cat back. I like the one on my truck, would fit your purpose well.

I would have to say Magnaflow is the muffler for you. Very subtle at idle but opens up when you step on it and no drone at highway speeds. It's SS so it won't rust.

A Dynomax Super Turbo should be just what you want.
