New To Me With 87k On It...is This A Good List Of Things To "repl

My father is very frail at this time due to about 8 months in the ICU (finally back home and getting stronger, thank goodness) and so he decided to get rid of his more expensive items that he's not using anymore. So, I bought his 2003 Z71 Tahoe from him.

It has ~87k on it. He drives with a VERY light foot so for the most part the car was not driven hard. They DID have a travel trailer for awhile though so it towed that ~15 or 20 times. He was also very religious about the oil changes, but never had any of the other regular maintenance things done (trans, diff, etc.).

So now that I'm getting it at 87k I was thinking about doing the following at the next oil interval (coming up very shortly):

Oil & Filter

Air Filter (if needed)

Front and Rear Diff

Transfer Case

Fuel Filter

Grease any fittings that are under the car

Also, should these below be done at this time?

Trans flush & filter? (Says 100k in the owners manual I believe...but he DID tow the trailer a bit, and it was owned in West TX, ie - hot and dusty)

Coolant?

Shocks?

Anything else I should do? Right now it seems to run fine, and the ride is very nice...but coming from a 4cyl S10, I just might be overwhelmed with the difference haha.

At 87k and some towing I would have the transmission serviced. There is a big debate on whether to do a complete flush and filter or just drop the pan and change the filter and replace some of the fluid. Some say a full flush is a shock to the system. I've done both and never had a problem

Coolant should be good to 100k (wouldn't hurt to do it now) and shocks only if the ride says they need to be replaced.

If the cabin air filter has never been replaced that should be quite dirty and should be changed.

Maybe the PCV valve is due as well.

How are the tires? If original then those may be due to be replaced.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Hadn't thought about the cabin filter or PCV. Tires are ok. That is one other thing he did replace. Ride seems fine to me so I'll wait on shocks. I'm undecided on the flush vs. filter/fluid... something to ponder.

I'd drop the pan, flushing just stirs the debris up and around. In 30 seconds, someone is going to reply you the opposite, and call me a moron

Moron... ............Just kidding, That is a good idea to drop the pan ....it's a fresh start then

03- has NO cabin filter in it. 02 was the last year for it. :withstupid:

pvc- fixed orifice, no ball in it. but you could pull it off and check to see if there is any build up on it, and clean it with some carb cleaner.

clean the MAF sensor when you change the air filter

run some SEAFOME through it 1 can in the intake and 2 cans in the fuel tank.

if the trans fluid looks and smells good than do the pan drop and filter, if not than you may want to have the flush done.

good luck

I know there has been a ton of seafom treads but what exactly does it do and is ther a benefit? Where is the bet places to put it?

Thanks

If it were me, I would do everything you have listed with the exception of the shocks. I would also clean the MAF, PCV, and throttle body. And I would have the brakes looked at, possibly replacing the pads if they haven't been replaced recently.

I would do all of this for peace of mind, unless money was an issue. I would rather start with a clean slate on these items and not worry about if I should have or shouldn't have.

Just my $.02 worth
