Got A Problem I Think Alot Of Us Have

Ive probley seen this answered before but curious what you racers think this is,....i was coming to a stop at in intersection and and decided that i didnt want to go that way so i went to floor it to jump out in front of traffic but nothing....just bawwwww.....then downshift...haul ass, almost as if when i floored it the truck went into 3rd then relized i wanted to go fast, then it said "oh 2nd "..lol of course while doing this there was a cop in the intersection so i let off the gas so i didnt make so much noise.

 

what do you all think...do i need a better programmer (i have hypertech, i know its not right for my mods) or maybe some sort of trany issue ...????

Not sure, sometimes from a 60 roll mine will downshift into 3rd for a split second then into 2nd. Maybe you were going too fast to down shift into the desireable lower gear. Like mashing it @ 50mph results in a lame 2nd gear pull. If this isn't a reoccuring problem it might have been a one time fluke, like starting out in 2nd gear from a stop. From time to time my truck will shift at strange mph's at a strange pace.

I finally saw what my truck could fully do yesterday. Since the wait4me installed over a month ago and ngk-tr55 copper plugs the pcm is still learning. I jumped on the interstate up in the sticks where the speed limit was 70 and I finally saw 3rd gear for the first time since the tune. She holds 2nd gear all the way to 90mph now :) . I let off about 95 and man was that some pull... Before the tune my truck had nothing at all above 65. the best I could ever get down shifting was 3rd gear above 65. This is with 3.73 gears. For the longest time I wanted 4.10's but I think now with the tune 3.73 really seems to be the high speed sweet spot.

My 6.0 doesn't like to downshift. But when it does watch out cause you're doing 90...

 

Its painfully easy to tell when torque management is robbing of most of your oomph, unfortunately I've seen what an LS1 can do to a rearend.

Yeah see i only notice this once in a while but when it happens i want to put my fist through the dash...lol

(dash parts too expensive..) So i decided and also because i could have so much of a better truck i should just get the Preditor diablo sport tunner.

yeah you know a dyno tune isnt a bad idea...but i do got to ask wont a dyno tune only tune what you have., in other words if i add something i should go back and do another tune...that seems kinda pricie to me. I do like the idea though and i did have the truck run on the dyno once before but only for a HP rating. So now the question stands Dyno or new kind of tune?

I vote for a handheld tuner, but if you plan on getting high power mods in the future, hold off and save the money. Unless you:

 

a) are rich

b) are highly impatient

c) don't plan on getting those mods until waaaay in the future.

ok i might apply to (b) and maybe © but i want to do things fast so that might be wrong...lol. See the nitrous is realy putting a knife in my program, and now to make it really work i need to fine tune things a little better. Everyone tells me custom tune, i seem to be pretty shure of the diablo...cuz i talked to them they said it would work.. :crackup: ..lol and now i got dyno tune. But im thinking Tqmgnt is the cause of this. I belive for everythng you add it robbs some power from you. But thats why i got the bottle hoping i can help this a little .....and shure enough it works but only when your spraying.. :D

Some dyno tune shops offer free or very cheap lifetime updates, and for extra can upload the settings to a hand held controller that lets you switch between tunes.

 

I'm also very impacient, the minute I buy something I have to have it in :crackup: I got angry when I had to wait an extra day to put my drop shackles in at my dads shop! You should have seen me when I had to wait 2 months for my outlaw because their filter factory went into crisis lock down mode...

Yeah, I don't vote the diablo at all.

 

Maybe get some tunning software (EFILIVE) from jesse at wait4me or dyno would be my two favored routes.

 

You are going to need two separate maps though. One for nitrous and one for without, which can be accomplished with tow/haul mode.

 

Barring all that, you could go standalone engine management and fuel. but your lookin at a few G's there.

ok went on wait4me site and saw the efi live thing....i got to say that seems awsome,but kinda cheap but maybe it works...i also saw the stand alone unit that as nytemare had said was like a grand.

 

I might actualy go that route especialy if i can download stuff from the web and they say you can download a free version to check it out.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
