Duckhunter's Skid Plate Pics

I ordered one of the replacement diamond plate skid plates and just now got a chance to install it, but it looks great. My original plans were to paint it w/ spray on bedliner and paint that red, however It didn't work quite right and I'll take another crack at it in a few weeks. But, here it is w/ spray on bedliner on it and installed (pardon the darkness of the pics, it was getting dark and I was in the shadow of the garage):

I'm thinking about painting up that crossmember as well, it looks pretty crummy and w/ the bodylift you can see it a lot better now.

Jon, the skidplate looks good and fits well. I have one too but I'm still trying to get it painted.

You ever think about making one that covers more area, like follows the contours of the cross member? IMO it would give it a much nicer look. You'd have to make it a bit thinner otherwise you'd need to be a body builder to lift it

Jon,

The skidplate that I made follows the basic pattern of the stock plate. I did this for several reasons:

1. I did not want to make something that would work with my truck but maybe not with someone elses. The more I deviated from the stock plate (which I knew would fit all models) the greater chance I had of that happening.

2. If I made some big plate that covered a lot more area it might block some airflow or something. I figured that the factory made that design for a reason.

3. I really made it more for function, not form. On vehicles without a body lift you can't really see it anyways.

IMO, I think that it would look better if you painted it a contrasting color. I love mine in silver. Red (like you said) would look good on your truck.

Hopefully next week I'll have the time and patience to paint it up red and paint up that crossmember black (not rusty like GM has it) and it'll look even better than it already does. The spray in bedliner should hold up nicely and I sprayed it light enough to still show the diamondplate design.

You should paint the bolts in a contrasting color. If you paint the skidplate red, I suggest painting them black.

I bought Jon's skid plate after his truck was wrecked, but painted over the spray-on bedliner with silver.

Glad to see that Jon's plate is being put to good use. It looks good with that body lift and silver is the best color for them, IMO.

As far as one for a lifted truck, I would be up for it but I would have to have a lifted truck to design it on. Also, I would think that the skidplate would have to be different for each lift manufacturer. Is there anyone that has a lifted truck in the West TN area that would want one?
