Snowplow Options For Nbs Silverado?

Recommended Posts

I was looking at getting a SnowSport® 180 Utility Plow for my NBS Silverado. Its light duty and I would be using it to do my driveway and my parents driveway. Looks light and durable and can take it off easily when not in use. Hooks up to 2" receiver. How much would it be to get a 2" front receiver installed? The blade only weighs 56 lbs so it seems like it wouldnt put alot of pressure on front end. Let me know what you guys think of this plow and what it might cost to get receiver put on. Thanks

Those reciever mounts ones wont take much to break.

if your gonna get a cheap plow get a snow bear I been beating the crap out of one for 6 years

and it was used when I got it. I did have a new scraper blade made out of T10 steel

th the factory one wears quickly. I acually helped do parking lots with my friends snow removal company, any cheap plow will not back blade well.

Fisher now has a poly home plow that has downforce so you can pull the snow away from your garage. its lighter and wont effect your warrenty. they also have a LD series all steel and still rated to fit 1/2s the RD's are a little to heavy for a 1/2.

I like the fishers RD LD's because they have a trip blade on the bottom and you dont loose the whole load of snow if you clip an curb.

Meyers and Western are full trip plows.

I have heard good things about both Snowsport and Snowbear. Your choice in plows will come down to whats import to you. The hitch is simple they are vehicle specific. For more info. call me

no not true ,my snowbear is 9 years old and still going, no its not a pro full angle plow

you have to get out to angle it  , but if you just have a long driveway to do its fine.

now it you want to do back blading and stack snow high it WONT do a good job.

Im am looking for a light duty full power angle plow like a fisher LD $3200+

They are JUNK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't waste your money on that one or a snowbear either !

Buy a REAL plow or snowblower instead.......................

This is an excellent site for people who know about snow plows. But seems to be brand specific.

I would not toucht these light duty plows myself unless you are a very, very careful person. Hit one hard obstacle and you will rip out everything. Remember that your truck weighs a lot and coming at a very low sped of 5 mph gives it quite a punch.

I woulded go with a LD plow there is nothing to them and won't stand up to much (even my fisher dealer woulded buy one) i have plowed with alot of diffrent rigs ( S-10 blazer , Land Cruiser , toyota pickup and a few other's they all had RD 7Ft fisher plows and worked great ( i think the blazer was the best ) i just got rid of my 2500HD and on that i had a 8ft HD fisher and will be tradeing it in on a RD 7/12ft fisher with maybe the nylon blade anyhow this 1500 chevy i have now should plow my yard with out any trouble to the truck a good share of the trucks up here in VT. are 1/2 tons if you take things easy with it you should be able to do your yards without any trouble to the truck. P.S. topdj , my first plow was a manual plow think it was a meyers! don't miss that one one bit !!

yes the RD is nicer "heavier" then the LD only difference is the 14 vs the 12 gauge steel

mount and the hyd is the same.

the RD exceeds the limits for the 1/2 ton the LD doesnt

Also the LD is shorter in height then the RD i for one don't like to drive over the snow once it comes over the blade ,also if that 1/2 ton can't take the weight of a RD plow then they shoulded be calling it a truck at all . i know some dealership don't like to put a plow on the 1500 and then there are some that do not have any problem with it and will take care of any issues that should come up if any , please don't get me wrong this truck (1500) is not made to go out and plow parking lots and every driveway on your road but to just go and do your own yard and use your brain it should hold up fine with the RD.

correct the LD is 26" and the RD is 29" if you plan on driving on a public road you can't with the 1/2 and the RD because you exceed the GVRW, other than that the RD will work just fine and my friend that owns a western/fisher dealership says the same thing as you to get the RD

shear extra weight makes plow and backblade better

Sorry guys..................Some of you are incorrect !

GM indeed offers the VYU plow prep. option on the 1/2 ton reg.

cab model truck.

Many different plows/brands are avail. for it.

Sure you can't put a 9 ft. Fisher V plow or a Blizzard 810 on it and

not exceed the FAWR but it has been done time and time again !

Not to mention many deaLERs are gunshy of doing warranty work

on non VYU equipped trucks with "plow related damage".

They could give a rats azz about your cries of the Mag-Moss act BS!

Your truck is broke , they won't fix it under warranty, and your boned!

Anyhoo don't be blind to plow brands ! Untill recently Douglas Dynamics

owned Fisher/Western and now Blizzard. Many parts are identical and used

on either brand !

Not to mention Meyers/Diamond were/are also owned by the company

who at one time also owned Douglas Dynamics !

One again take a trip over to http://www.letstalksnow.com/forums

The pros over there can help ya out with advise and know what

they are talking about !

VYU plow prep is not an option on the crew cabs, exceed the gvrw and expect to have warrenty rejected when front end parts fail, I heard something about the weight considers the crew cab or ext cab having people in all the seats. I plow alone
