check engine light has been on for a couple weeks. code check says bank one and two converter issues, i don't have the code with me, i'll post it tomorrow.

5.7 vortec, gmc sierra Z71, 98

198,000 miles, original converters.

she's stumbling too, when i accelerate she'll hesitate a little, when i'm going 50mph and i have to gun it to get to 70mph she'll stumble and hesitate, but when she gets there she's fine.

i had the fuel pump replaced last winter when i was having the same problems.

would the converters being bad cause this hessitation?

how much i'm i looking at to replace both of them?

thanks for the help or any advice

Yeah, plugged converters will do that. It will also make your exhaust smell like rotten eggs/sulfur.

A set of Magnaflow high flow units can be had for fairly cheep...they're 50 state legal to my knowledge and stainless.

I'd first check your O2 sensors, they could be sending the code. Then you need to find out why the converters clogged if they are otherwise the new ones could plug right up also.

I'll read up on checking the sensors in the hayens.

if i had a code reader, and my friends truck, same make model, could i erase the code, and one by one swap o2 sensors to see if it's the sensor or the cats thats causing the problem?

the code i'm getting is 0420

You have a cat efficiency code. Basically your primary O2 readings have passed the standard deviation limits from your post cat 02's,...your bank 1 cat is done. Stock replacements will cost about $100 - 300 installed.

I wouldn't bother checking your 02 sensors, 200K miles for a stock cat is a good life. Rich engine conditions will kill your cats as well as running race fuel or too much injector cleaner.

I run dual Random Technology 3" High flow cats on my set-up which have a metal substrate vs the stock ceramic. I wouldn't go this route unless you do some serious towing or have a high-po engine.
