Jameson Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Im wondering, on a few forums "How much did you pay?" etc, Ive seen guys list that they got their truck for "blank" amount due to downpayment and rewards points or whatever GM calls it. I want to know how someone earns these points? Can someone elaborate on this?
Jameson Posted October 23, 2007 Author Posted October 23, 2007 after some research, I think its the GM Master Card. I could be wrong.
shedberg Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Yeah, I think it's the GM mastercard thing. Not sure how quickly they accumulate, it's probably not worth getting unless you get new vehicles on a regular basis.
sonjaab Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 If they are a GM family/employee/retiree member there are similar programs with extra cash offers not avail. to the general public. GM card may also have special offers from time to time ie: bonus GM points cash etc. Also some past Gm buyers may get mailings from GM with spcial cash off/ rebates/bonus etc. programs........................
unit731 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 GM Mastercard. I got a mailed solicitation a few years ago. So I took it. With plans to eventually purchase a new truck. So far, my points are $886.00 that I can use to take off the sold/delivered price. There are so many points cards out there - Visa and Mastercard and American Express. Southest Airlines has one. Delta has one. The list is endless. I just happened to take the GM Mastercard. Some people, instead of using cash, use one of these card for everything - even if they pay off the card each month. They still earn points. Does any obtain a lot of points quickly? No. It's for the long haul. I actually used my GM Mastercard for the down payment. So a few more points.
jrrod2004 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 To give an idea for a 2007 Silverado CC LTZ: Vehicle: 2007 Silverado 1500 Selected Style: Crew Cab Short Box 2WD 1LZ Exterior: Dark Blue Metallic Interior: Light Cashmere/ Ebony Custom Leather-appointed Total MSRP:* $44,629.00 MSRP: $35,890.00 Color & Options: $8,739.00 Total MSRP:* $44,629.00 Supplier Price:*** $40,755.93 Current Offers: -$3,500.00 Net Price: $37,255.93 Savings: $7373.07 this is what someone would be looking at if they had a GMS discount combined with current incentives for a custom ordered truck loaded with every single option except the camper mirrors. If your dealership is willing to play ball, they will allow the GM Rewards point on top of this, but most dont since that will start to cut into their commission and profit. Hey unit731, you think using the points was worth it?
davee01 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I had about $2,500 off my recent truck purchase using my GM Mastercard. That and rebates / dealings I had to get the new truck. There are 2 flavors out there. An origional plan and a new plan. The new plan I belive has limits based on vehicle, the origional plan I think you can earn up to $500 / year up to total of $3500 towards the vehicle.
dietz4ibanez Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I got like $1200 saved up on my card but I also get the GM family discount! So basically I earned all those points on my card for no reason!

unit731 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 GM Mastercard Points. Good plan or waste of tme. Well as stated above, I have $886.00 that is just like cash taken off bottom line price. Off course there are other ways for discounts. Rebates, etc. I also will use Business Choice Plan which is, for me, another $500.00 credit. I do not have any connection with the automotive manufacturing industry as some do. There are discounts there. So, should some jump up and get a GM Mastercard? As stated above, it is a slow process. But if one is going to have a Mastercard and one is planning to purchase a GM vehicle some day, why not? Also, if one is not an impulse buyer and can and does have the ability to shop around, a good deal can be obtained.
hodo78 Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I have used my GM card when purchasing my last two trucks and my wifes latest car. I got ~$1,000 off my first truck, then ~$2,200 off my wifes car, and then just used it last month on my new truck and got ~$900 off. FYI....GM card gives you 5% back for rebates. So for every 10,000 you put on your card and pay off, you get an easy $500 toward rebate. I use my card for my work purchases during my work travel, which my company reimburses me for. So at this point, I have gotten all my rebates and havent had to spend a dime of my money!

Last I checked, I've redeemed almost $9,000 towards the purchase of GM cars and trucks via this program. Waste of time ? I think not ...
