Front Air Deflector

How hard is it to change the front air

deflector on my new 07 silverado?

 

(Mine has holes for a plate holder)

 

A new one is around $100, labor for install

is around $120

 

The shop said its a 3hr job.

 

Can I change it myself in the garage with basic tools/

wrenchs?

 

Keep in mind im no GM tech.

I hate paying for the install,the $100 to buy the stupid

thing is bad enough..(I hate those holes)

WOW! You must really hate holes. Smooth top push in "christmas tree" type retainers almost render the holes invisible unless you are 12 inches from it. Cost: about 80 cents at any decent auto supply.

 

If you insist on replacing it, the front bumper comes off as an assembly. Then it isn't rocket science to replace the valance and reinstall. Moderate skill and tools are all it would take.

The bumper comes off in one large assembly. It has about 30 10mm bolts that hold the 9 or 10 pieces together. Once its off is fairly simple to take everything apart and put back together. Its just very time consuming. The three hours labor is not that far off. If nothing else, doing it yourself will give you knowledge on how to do it again should something happen and the the satisfaction of doing it yourself. I swear half the body is held together with 10mm bolts. Its good practice.

You mean the imitation plastic and sheetmetal front bumper like device...
