Well, I think the ol' girl is finally getting tired of driving 100 miles per day. I had the tranny checked a few weeks ago and there was debris in the pan, but the truck has 150k on her and the way I pile up mileage I have been debating trading her off. It is hard to stomach a payment again, but I might not have a choice.

Well, today my son and I were goofing around all day and we finally pulled into a park and munched on some nachos and jammed some tunes. I had her running since we weren't planning on being there long and when I went to put her in reverse...nada. I put it in park and put it in drive and nada. For some reason, I shut it off at that point (GD moron) and obviously she won't restart in gear. I turned the key and tried to put her in neutral and she won't go above 3rd...the indictator won't move past that point regardless of the handle's position. If I move it back and forth, it eventually won't go above 2nd and if I do it enough more, the indicator stays in 1st. When I take the keys out, the indicator goes to park for a micro-second and then scrolls through all the gears down to 1st and stays.

She most definetely thinks she's in gear, even though we put it in park when I pulled into the parking spot. Physically, the shifter will go to what I think the normal park position is. I tried to fake it out, figuring I could hop a curb to get her home, but she wouldn't go for it.

This sounds like some weird electrical/computer/tranny thing, but I don't know. There is no puddle, no smoke ever came out..she acted fine. She's just been acting weird all around and I have been debating what to do for too long I guess.

Any thoughts? I think maybe I need to part with my baby....

Sounds like something let loose in the linkage between the shifter and the tranny?

I'm by no means a trans expert, but the fact that the trans just abruptly stopped working seems wierd.

I think the shift linkage is the problem too...

Well, with some daylight I was able to crawl underneath and check the linkage and sure enough, there is something apparently broken on a clip. I can force the linkage forward and get her to go into Park and Reverse. I was able to drive her to a place where I can look at it more closely and then take it to have that clip replaced. Part of the clip or whatever it is fell off on my head, so I know something is broken and allowing the linkage to rotate back toward the rear of the tranny.

Thanks for all of the input, that's why I love you guys...lol.
