Loaded Sub Box

was looking at a small enclosure from kenwood and clarion that has a mid bass sub; passive radiator, and amp built in. looks like it might fit under the seat out of way. has anyone used these? its small so not thundering bass, but enough for me in a regular cab NBS; not much room... can this hook up to factory head unit? they may not be cost effective at $249? any advice greatly appreciatted.. thanks ray

Since posting, I've looked into a friend's NBS reg cab...There is CRAP for room behind those seats. I've got two tens behind the seats in my reg cab, and they fit very easily with enough room between the boxes to drop a jacket and my backpack.

Punching up Crutchfield.com and entering the information for a NBS reg cab yeilds a few options for small powered enclosures that look like they might do the trick.

All three of those came back when searching for a "powered" sub enclosure for your truck. Amp and speaker all-in-one. Super simple installs. I can't vouch for any of them fitting in there though. You'd have to measure your spaces.

Those two tens you have, are they regular sized speakers (not the lo-pro) and not in a pass through? Trying to see if I can get my grubby little hands on one, but really want to know if I will be able to put the speakers I already have in there for a short period until I can get scrounge up enough money for new 10s. If I can put the ones I already have in the truck in my imagination, I would only have to buy a box.

Yeah, they're just regular Kicker Comp V/R's. No low-profile anything.

I just repalced some things in my NBS. I got a coustom box made for under the passenger side back seat ( 40 split part) - wanted this done so I could still pull up the other side (60 split) so my dog has a place to lay down) Anyway, I got the box made, loaded with (1) 12in Kenwood excelon (or something ) low profile sub. Added a bad ass amp behind the back seat. I also had them replace the BOSE hi's with some much better tweeters. ( They said I should just leave all the other BOSE parts in place, and only repalce the tweeters- the tweeters is what really sucks on the BOSE)

The sound is off the charts - 10 times better. Box, hi's, sub, amp , install , wiring was all around $850 - much cheaper then getting the consoul JBL stealthbox installed - plus they didn't have to tear apart the eitre front of the truck.

Nah, no need for a pic. Just wondering I have an amp, the speakers, and a box that doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of fitting, and the speakers were going when I took them out of the previous vehicle, so the way I figure, I can ride around with the old speakers for a couple weeks until I buy the new ones, and throw those in there.

Sounds like a nice system. Go the full 10 yards and get the BOSE speakers out of there, you will trip at the difference. The BOSE speaks are just terrible IMHO. Here is a pic of the BOSE speakers I removed.

the speaker on the right is from the front door, the one on the left is rear door on an extended cab. As you can tell by the pics, there is nothing to them. I can't see how they sounded as good as they did, and they didn't. A 30 buck pair of speaks from Wal-Mart would be much better.

Bose's sound isn't so much the speakers as it is the enclosure. . .at least that is what I was told.

Must be Bose.

I am by no means an audiophile, but when I got my truck and my vette I was appalled by the Bose system. It was pitifull. Bose is a ripoff. Here is a Bose speaker with the "enclosure". Yuck.

I have only been in a bose equipped vehicle once, and while it isn't as good as an aftermarket system, it is better than most stock systems. It is definitely better than the one in my mom's car.

I'm no audiophile either, but I do need a sysem that gives a "full" sound, and the bose does it slightly better than the stock system.

IMO the bose should be the standard system in most vehicles, and there should be a true "premium" sound sysem.

Have you boys thought about using smaller drivers for your subs? There are some nice 8" subs out there that will work very well. For example, JL Audio makes a nice 8 that you can mount with no room behind the driver and a very small box besides. Two 8's will KILL your single 10 and not take up alot of room. I have a regular cab and am exploring options with a couple of 8's in round enclosures that will lay sideways across the space behind my seats without giving up room to move my seat back. Elemental Designs have an 8" that looks pretty fun as well. Just an idea!
