I just bought a 2003 Silverado 2500HD D-Max. I'm a diesel noob. However, I do plan to put stright pipes for exhaust, a CAI, and a tuner. I just don't know what tuner. Which one do ya'll use? Do they come pre-set with different tunes that you can change whenever you want? Sorry for the noob question....

Most tuners come with 3-5 preset tunes.

Edge has 5 shift on the fly tunes.

So does the banks power PDA (probably your best bet due to it being banks for one and secondly...its a PDA, which is always cool to have.:( )

You can get the Diablo predator, hypertech, superchip, and a couple others...they aren't shift on the fly though.

So if I found an Edge Juice w/ Atitude used for $450 shipped, would that be a good deal?

I have no idea man....

I've heard from some of the guys around town here that run them that they are good. But I have no idea on the cost of them.

From what I see by looking on e-bay...they're runnin like 800 bucks...so if its the right one...450 sounds good to me.

ask the diesel guys one forum above this one though to be sure.

Go for the diablo sport predator for sure, great tuner, not change on the fly but great anyway, plus you wont be quiet as tempeted to turn the power way up and blow your tranny. And its way cheaper... we got ours for $250 or $300.

Does the Diablo Sport come with pre-set tunes as well? I don't know much about diesels.....definately not enough to tune one myself.

Yes it comes with a 40, 65, 85 and 100 hp. tunes, but dyno tests prove that all of the tunes are under rated by around 20 hp. or somthing close to that.

The best place you could go for that kind of information is www.dieselplace.com they know everything about the duramax there.

Your best bet is to go with a custom tune. You will save yourself in the long run. You can get custom tunes through email, as you probably already know. The transmission in these trucks are pretty weak when it comes to mucho power from what I hear. Of course, with the power output from just a tune, anything would be game for breaking. Intake, exhaust, and tune will net you a good bit. The tune alone will net you a great seat of the pants feel and good gains. The exhaust will help get rid of the spent fuel, and keep the EGTs low as well as the air intake. That is the goal, make power and keep the EGTs down. Get your self a good Pyrometer gauge, trans temp gauge, and boost gauge.
