Nbs Taillight Wiring

Recommended Posts

I had an ARE camper top installed on my 07 NBS. I noticed that the retards that installed the thing must have wired the high mount light up wrong. When I turn my left turn signal on the high mount blinks. It doesn't blink on the right hand signal. When the brake is pressed it works properly, but turn on the left signal and it started to blink. It does not blink on the right hand signal.

Is there just a brake light wire in there somewhere that I can patch into instead of what ever wire those idiots have it in?

Thanks in advance....

There are two brake light wires coming off the brake switch. One goes to the turn signal switch and back to the tail lights or trailer plug. Another on goes directly to the CHMSL. That is the one you need to run too your topper.

I am under there right now. There is no wire that is just for the brake light that i can find. I have tapped every single wire to the trailer plug with no success. it either blinks on the right or the left side. The light blue wire is the right hand turn signal.

That 09 Ford looks a lot better to me the more crap this Chevy does to me. I got a ticket today over that blinking 3rd light.

I need to get this fixed somehow.

Why don't you go to d dealer and get it fix?

Dealer said it's not GM equipment and won't touch it. Camper place said that's the only way to wire one up. That's why I asked in here.

Sounds like they wired the High Mount light directly off of the left taillight. That would explain why it does exactly what the left light does (brake and blinker)

And that would be no fault of GM, just someone taking the easy way out in wiring the camper.

and what a d!ckhead of a cop to actually pull you over and take the time to write a ticket over something as minimal as a that!

This is a common problem with the hitch lights that go into the receiver as well. There is some kind of resistor for it that will stop the flashing...Can't remember where I got it from though, was like 3 years ago.

Well I guess I'll have to look under the rear bumper of my truck, but somewhere near the trailer plug should be a wire for a center high mount stop light. I can't imagine why they would include it in the GMT 800 trucks and not the 900's, it won't be on the plug but should be separate from it.

I know why it blinks. They wired it into what GM has ran to the rear of the truck.

There is no high mount brake light wire running to the back. I took the truck in once again to a 5th dealer in Baton Rouge. Shop foreman told me there is NO wire at the rear for the 3rd tail light. If I wanted that camper high mount to not blink I needed to come off the wire that goes up to the cab high mount.

Other wise it would blink and that was all there was to it.

I'd of paid GM the extra buck for the wire to be ran to the back.

Mine is wired off the back tail lights, and works fine. It does not blink. My truck cap dealer installed a small resistor, and tapped off both sides. The resistor only lets the truck cap CHMSL light up, if BOTH tail lights are lite. If only one side is light, like when turning, it won't light up. I can't beleive none of the places you went to know about this!!

Here's my truck cap guy, give him a call, he may be able to seel you the resistor, or point you in the right place-

I got it fixed. Under the dash there is a bundle of wires that look like were taped by a 5 year old. The orange wire in that bundle is the chisim (spelling) wire. I put a wire on the end of that bad boy and ran it thru the floorboard and back to the camper top.
