2008 GMC Sierra Regular Cab Long Bed 4x4

The black trim piece on bottom of driver's window - outside. Snowing today. Left window partly open but truck was under cover. When I pressed the power window to go up, the trim piece on outside of truck came off. I'm guessing, but it appears that glass froze to trim piece and when window went up the trim was stuck to window.

Certainly, I can put it back. But what's to prevent this from happening again? Anyone know if this is glued on, snap on, or what?

Looking from outside, go to bottom of drivers window. There is a piece of black plastic attached to top of metal door. Bottom of window (when closed). Top of door at base of window.

Not raising your window when it's frozen :)

Seriously, when the windows are typically frozen (before the cab is thawed) you roll it down and it will "crack" the frozen seal because the window is pushing the trim piece down onto the door, but when you raise a frozen window there's only little tabs holding the trim piece on. (Well there used to be, I have no experience with an 07+) Even the window trim on my 67 is held on with 4 push on clamps.

Under the same circumstances, the same thing probably would have happened on 9 out of every 10 new vehicles made

I'd play dumb and bring it in and new a new one :D

I will play dumb too and ask: What ?

:) Long 10 hour day!

Bring it in and get a new one (the trim piece) :D

Apparently spell check can't check for stupid, huh? :D

This happened to mine too on the pass side. It is glued on. I blamed it on the body shop that painted my fender and blended it into the door. They removed all of the trim to do this. (Car wash incident when I had 800 miles on her :) ).

I simply re-glued it on with some Gorilla glue and it hasn't been a problem since.

Boy if they ever perfect that, I'll sure look better!

Unit731,

Those moldings are a press fit mostly. The really just grip the lip they are on. They are like that on a lot of vehicles. The trick might be to lower the window just a little before going back up with it in a freezing environment. Just a suggestion.

The piece he is referring to is not press fit or snapped in. It is glued on. I could see the old glue remnants on the backside of mine. There are no lips or other snap-in features on the trim. Try some good weatherstrip glue or a weatherproof glue like Gorilla Glue. I had mine fixed in 10 mins, used some duct tape to hold it in place until the glue set. Haven't had a problem since, and that was last summer.

Well, I stand corrected then. Leave it to GM to change something that has worked for years... If that's the case, I would certainly have it replaced.

Thanks Vmax
