I use my 2000 1/2ton Suburban for towing an 8000#RV and flat towing my racecar.

truck has 72000 miles on it and about half of that has been towing my RV, enclosed racecar trailer, Waverunner and some other stuff.

I have had zero mechanical problems with this truck. Will be upgrading to a new one in the next year or so. Maybe a CC 1/2 ton with Max tow package or a 3/4 with 6.0L haven't decided yet. the biggest reason I would not get the 1/2 ton is the lack of a 6 speed tranny.

Welcome aboard!

Is that a 914-6? SCCA racer?

no this one is a 4, although it is "breathed on" just finished rebuilding the motor and doing a complete paint and suspension rebuild over the last two winters...this is my 4th one. I had an original 914-6 years ago with a 2.7L RS spec motor. 220+hp and `1900#s, it was very quick.

I race at Laguna Seca, Sears Point (Infineon) and two SCCA owned tracks in California...

as far as the weight of the RV...my Suburban was one of the earliest of the 2000 year build. It came with an 8800# tow rating with the 4:10 gears, they later derated that setup.

If I get the half tonner, it will have the 10,000# + tow rating.

The best tow rating for the new 08 3/4T Burb is 9700lbs with a 6.0L, 6 sp, and 3.42 gears. So, unless you want to go to a truck - you can get everything you want in a Burb. I am not sure why they did not put at least 3.73 gears in it - they offer both 3.73 and 4.10 in the 1/2T.

Welcome,

I think the 6.2 and the 6 speed that just came available in the tahoe, should be available accross the 1/2 ton truck and SUV line for 09' models do out fall 08' last I herd.

I love the sight of a Suburban towing a big trailer.. VERY COOL!

Can I get your opinion on this? This is my last Suburban ('99 K1500). I haven't taken this same picture yet with the '08. As soon as the boat comes out of lay-up, I'll snap it and show you that one. I measured it once a long time ago. Without the engine box (far left of picture), the Suburban would almost fit inside the boat. Just a bit long. A Tahoe/Yukon would make it.

thanks to all. doing lots of reading since I am thinking of a new tow vehicle in the next year.

chevy or GMC are at the front of my list....only thing keeping me from getting a new extended cab, regular bed 1500 with the Max tow package is the 4 speed. I really want a 6 speed tranny and think GM needs to attend to this. all the other manufacturers are offering at least 5 or 6 speed autos now.

If they don't put it in the 1/2 tons, then I may step up the a HD 3/4 ton with the 6L and 6 speed.
