Help! Dic Control Upgrade

Ok I have a 06 Sierra CC Z71 and I purchased the Steering wheel with the controls, I need to get the harness but I am trying to scout out a dealership who will think outside the box to help me install this and reprogram the truck.

I am either getting it cannot be done, we will not do this, or 450.00 to reprogram and "run the wires"

Im in Houston Tx. Anyone know of a dealership in the area who will do this without getting crazy with the price?

Thanks

Doogie

Good luck, the clock spring (or whatever is for the airbag) is the primary 'reason' as to why dealerships will not do it......by the way I am over here in austin texas, so I dont know of any dealerships in houston that would be willing.

Yea its the clock spring. Kind of stupid that they wont help out.... They suggested that I go to an after market shop to help. Thats really stupid.... Like they would have a Tech II and the software necessary for that mod.

Ok talked to a dealer who would do it but they say there are more components needed for this project other than the steering wheel and clock spring..

Can anyone who has done this project chime in??? I really need some help here.............

Their feeding you a line. I researched and did this last year on an 04 that I had bought used. Clockspring, and Steering wheel. Period. You can do this part yourself. get a wheel puller, and take your time. Google "autowoods", and you'll get all the directions needed. The hard part is getting a dealer CAPABLE of upgrading. They call GM, by the time they hook back up to your truck all should be gold!

I have the steering wheel, but haven't purchased the clock spring. I am running into problems with finding a dealer who is "capable" How did you approach this with your dealer? How much did they charge you for this computer upgrade? Did it void your warr?

Doogie, sorry for the delay.

Clockspring Part # for my 1/2 ton ext 4wd is 26101829.

The dealer I had do the BCM reprograming was Dey Chevrolet, in Clinton,NY. Phone 315-853-5566. Service Mgr is Mike, and I believe the Tech's name is Dave.

As a brief description of what I saw. Tech 2 was hooked up to truck, and copied existing programming, then Tech 2 was hooked up to their computer. A call was placed to GM, stating they wanted to add RPO code "UK3" to this vehicle. GM then downloaded the option to the dealers computer, and Tech 2 was used to transfer new program into truck. That's a simplified description, but it can be done. My suggestion would be to call and ask to speak with this technician, and he can steer you with full instructions of what to do. Don't give up!!! Keep us posted!

Doogie, to answer your other questions, I had just fallen out of warranty, and they charged me 2 hours labor. This is not a cheap upgrade, but nice to have.

Ok so as of now it looks like I need a reprogram for UJ6 (TPMS) and UK3. Should I ask for anything else since I am probably going to be paying out the nose for this reprogram? I already purchased and installed the TPMS valve stems.

Doogie, that sounds like you're headed down the right path. If you've searched here, there was always talk of 2 "VCI" #'s, which I understand one was the radio controls, and the other was the DIC. I believe this to no longer be the way it's done, based on my experience. As a side note, I stood right next to the tech for the entire process, and it's basically moving trucks data from Tech 2 to computer, retreiving new, and returning Tech 2 to truck. For the cost of a call, I STRONGLY recommend calling the dealer mentioned above, and asking questions. Explain your situation, and ask to speak with the Tech. The more info you can get from them, the better prepared you'll be.
