Exhaust Drone

I have a 2000 2500 6.0l with standard exhaust and I'm getting a lot of drone when under load, as in accelerating or going uphill. I bought the truck to pull my travel trailer and the drone really gets annoying. 40 years ago I probably would have liked it but now it bugs me. And it scares the crap out of my little dachshund (not to mention my better half). Is there a way to reduce the drone significantly or is this something I'll have to live with?

yeah, you sure its original? go to a shop & ask how to quiet it down a bit, a resonator or 2 should. & remember the 6.0L isn't exactly a quiet engine

Best way to cure the drone is to put an OEM equivalent muffler on it.

With a quieter muffler, you will probably see some improvement in low-end grunt.

Thanks for all the replies. The truck had the muffler and cats replaced a couple days before I bought it. The previous owner said he told the muffler shop to put it back as close to stock as they could but apparently they didn't. From what all of you have told me I believe I need to take it to a different shop and tell them myself what I want. Thanks again.

Ahh, yeah, they probably just threw on some generic muffler. I'd suggest checking eBay for a factory muffler. Otherwise it could get rather expensive buying a new factory muffler. I've actually never checked on the price, but I don't see it being all that cheap.
