Tranny Toast? Whining/non-shift?

I'll let you guys handle this one before we drop it off...

My sister goes to work today, calls the house a mile down the road. The tranny was whining loudly, but would shift. She says its "wobbling all over the road"...whatever the hell that is.

Anyhow, she pulls into a driveway, puts it in reverse, nothing but whining. Revese is shot, first gear whines loudly. When you put it in park, it still whines. Whines through all the gears, getting less and less till you hit 5th (OD)

I was thinking its the sun-shell gear, being Reverse and 1st are the most affected, but who knows?

Its a 98 GMC Jimmy with the 4.3L and the 4L60e (4-speed auto).

i tried 4 wheel drive, wouldnt move in reverse either, so i know its focused more on the tranny.

It might be serious or something simple like low fluid! By the way, OD is 4TH gear, you don't have a 5TH gear.

Well, first thing i did was check the tranny fluid when we got it home. Its defenitely full, and it smells burnt.

At 124,000 miles, we all know what that means.

She's gunna get it replaced with a Jasper (courtesy of my father). 3 year/100,000 mile warranty...cant beat it.
