2001 Suburban Brake Controller/wiring Question..

Is it normal to have constant 12V power back at the 7-way vehicle plug? If so, wont this cause a battery draining issue when leaving a trailer hooked up overnight? I have a buddy with a Ford that says his 12V power suppy at the plug is not "hot" until the ignition switch is turned to the on position therefor only supplying 12V power to the trailer when the vehicle is running(which makes good sence). Anyone..??

Thanks,

My truck has constant power to the 7-way plug. My brothers F-150 has to have the key on to have 12V power to 7-way plug.

There are advantages to both set-ups. I was helping my brother unload his cargo trailer at night and he tried turning the lights on in it and they didn't work. He had to turn the key on to get them to work. For instances like that, I like the constant power so you don't have to have the key in the ignition. You just have to remember to unplug your trailer if it is going to be sitting for awhile.
