07 Silverado Puttting On 285" Tires Help!

hi im just wondering how id go about this, i want to put 285" tires with my stock 17" wheels on my stock 07 new body style silverado, i dont want to lift it or anything but if i have too i will, ive done some reading and it sounds like i have to put a levl kit in, do i have too?? also if i have to could someone give me a link to one, thanks Bob

You are going to have to put on a leveling kit and probably trim a bit so they don't rub.

 

How wide are the stock rims again? You might need a wider rim for the 285's.

Ok you could maybe be able to just put them on the stock rims and be fine. There is a member on here that has this done on his truck with no problems.

 

I have the 285/70/17 bfg's but I put on a Rough Country leveling kit. It is a very simple kit and is only like $70 for it. You can get a 1.5" or 2" kit. I have the 2" kit.

 

If I were you I would just put them on first and see if you rub at all. If you do it will be minimal rubbing. If you can live with this leave it and if not then get a leveling kit to fix it.

I don't really know for sure about stock fitment on 17" wheels, but with my 18" Z71 aluminum wheels, 285/65r18 fits perfectly with the Rough Country leveling kit (70 bucks). The kit was fairly easy to install (although I gotta rotate one of the bolts soon, got it upside down cause it wouldn't fit the first time). I think the rough country fitment guide says 285/70r17 with stock rims is recommended with their lift.

Most 285s I have seen will work just fine on OEM 7.5" wheels. They would probably be more at home on something wider but they seem to be fine. I've had a lot of customers do it. Nobody has come back peeved.

 

There is actually one benefit to using the OEM wheels. They don't stick out as far as most custom wheels so the tires are less likely to rub the fenderliner / bumper when turned.

 

The leveling kit is a must.

I've got a 2000 single cab long bed Silverado. I've got 285/75/16 on my stock rims and they fit fine with no rubbing. Well it BARELY rubs when I might be at an angle with the steering all the way in reverse, but thats it. Just have stock suspension, but thinking about putting on a leveling kit so I can go with 10" wide rims.

i replaced the stock 245 70 17 with 265 70 17 , i notice that when i back up and turn, the tire rubs the mud flaps stock 2008 silverado 4x4

So I have a question,

 

I have an 08 Lt 4x4 and am planning on getting the CCM 2.5'' leveling kit in the next week or so. I understand that 285-70-17 tires will fit fine on stock wheels, but what about aftermarket??

 

The wheels I am looking at have these specs:

17" x 7.5"

31mm offset

4.97" backspacing

 

Stock wheels have these specs:

17'' x 8''

0mm offset.

4.5'' backspacing

 

These wheels are quite similar to stock, so would it be much more likely to rub??

Has anyone come across this issue before?

I got an 02' 1500 Sierra step side extended cab z71. Needed to switch out tires because the tire tread I had on my tires were mostly for highway (I was slipping in 4 wheel drive). So I went in and asked, "what is the biggest tire I could put on?" Keep in mind I dont have a suspension lift (not yet at least! Very soon...) So the guys went out there took a look and said, "we can try 285/75/16..." I have a aftermarket wheels (16" Akuza, Painted Black 359), and they fit! I was stoked, so ya, I venture to say they should. Oh yeah, they had to crank on my torsion bar just a little because there was a slight tilt forward with the bigger tires that I didn't like. I will get a picture as soon as this snow stops, lol. take it ez...

The GMT800 Silverado's and the GMT900 Silverado's are much different when it comes to tire fitment.

I have a 99 2500 4wd with no mods (It's not as high as a 2000 and later HD) and have the stock 6.5" wide 16" alum wheels with 265-75/16 Firestone MTs. Not ideal, but I think some 7.5" or 8" wheels would be better. No rubbing and I know I've seen the stock HD trucks with 285-75/16s on the same wheels (silly to put 285's on 6.5" wheels if you ask me, since you loose a lot of sidewall stability/steering response)
