1500 Crew Cab - 6.5' Bed

Does anyone know if GM is considering building a 1500 Crew Cab with a 6.5' bed? I think it would be in there best interest since ford does the same

The "1500 HD" filled that slot before Ford did. I don't even know if they still make it. Your are right, it would be a great seller!

If it was such a "great seller", wouldn't they still make it? Seems to me that they weren't selling enough to justify the added cost of the additional model. Or is there some other reason they stopped offering it? Why not just get a 3/4 ton?

Maybe GM stopped making the "1500HD" to force people to buy the 2500? Does the 2500+ line count against CAFE as much as the 1500s?

You may have hit the nail on the head...CAFE. One good reason NOT to produce a HD 1500 if it counts against them

IIRC 3/4 and up don't get EPA testing. So no I would assume they wouldn't count.

So you are saying they may have stopped producing the 1500HD becasue of low MPGs?

 

I wish they would have the option for a 6.5" bed on the crew cab. I wouldnt think it would make that much of a difference in MPG.

I've heard the main reason was a problem creating a stable half-ton frame that would support a full 4 door cab with a 6'6 bed behind it, that and most people buy crew cabs for grocery getters and speaking from experience, a 153" wheelbase truck is NOT a suitable grocery shopper. I went from a ext cab colorado to the crew cab 2500hd and it was like going from a golf cart to an aircraft carrier...My ext cab NBS Silverado is a very good balance, not as long, turns better and doesn't require 3 parking spaces, but still has a full bed and reasonable rear space.
