Hey guys. Just came across this information today at work.

 

Turns out GM is having alot of problems with paint quality on 07/08 models

 

Great. Go Figure.

 

My truck is "involved" in this, believe it or not. I will admit, the paint quality seems real cruddy, and I do have alot of orange peel in the paint. My truck has never actually been repainted, though.

 

I guess I will wetsand and buff it to my liking, not GM's.

 

ANYWAY, here's the info

My 07 black gmc sierra has paint missing in certain spots. You can clearly see the primer with the clear over it. Can anyone use gm vis?

1. Dirt found in the paint

 

2. Thin paint "primer bleed"

 

3. Orange peel

 

4. Actual runs found in the paint

 

Damn...what year are we in? 2008? Aren't we sick and tired of being GM Guinea Pigs ???

Your GMC is not "involved" in this EI topic (engineering information) according to VIS

 

BUT, without delay, you should be taking ANY type of paint concern right back to the dealer.

Thanks for checking.....I'll live with it, it's not horrible. Just enough to bother me.

 

An otherwise fine truck, and frankly I'd be afraid of a complete paint job to fix the issues. Would probably cause more trouble than it's worth.

Guys...Remember

 

This info was just released a FEW DAYS ago...so all of your VIN's may not be "affected" yet

 

I would surely run another VIS in a week or so.

 

Maybe we can get MCueva or MS3DALE to help post out the actual EI...

thanks do you know what the recall is for the 07????

 

so if it is not a recall for paint what am i to do? say something to the dealer, because we have a issue with the front fender needing repainted again because of dents that were there when we bought it, and if they are going to repaint they may as well do the whole thing....

well the clearis pretty thin allready and if they screwed up i would not wet sant it i bet the clear is very thin....

BUT, in retrospect, I've read a TON of paint problem posts on the 07's, so maybe we should let the 07 owners know about what's going on with the 08 owners...
