Oil Change

Can I do this? I went to synthetic at my fist oil change, but i would like to try going back to Dino for my third. My engine makes a lot of chirping noise at start up and i thought maybe i switched to synthetic too early.

What do you guys think?

And by the way, I had the truck at the dealership and they said it was normal for some 4.8l to do this start up chirping - thats why i thought it could be oil.

You can switch back & forth but you loose the Superior advantage if Synthetic. I hope your using a 5W30 because all newer engines built after 1997 MY have closer mail & rod bearing clearances and wont tolerate heavier weight oils.

5W30 and 10W30 are both 30 weight oil at operating temps. The difference between 5 and 10 are very small. Also API allows a range in thickness at cold and hot temps, so depending on the brand some 5 and 10 could overlap..

Also I doubt any oil will cause a chirping noise at start-up.

Can you provide a source for this information?

The Viscosity Rating is a measure of an oil's flow characteristics, or thickness, at certain temperatures. The low-temperature viscosity (the first number, 5W in a 5W-30 oil) indicates how quickly engines crank in winter and how well the oil will flow to lubricate critical engine parts at low temperatures. The lower the number, the more easily the engine will start in cold weather. The high-temperature viscosity (the second number, 30 in a 5W-30 oil) provides thickness, or body, for good lubrication at operating temperatures.

Go to Mobil, Pennzoil, Castrol, ect web sites and look at the different weights, then go to their spec section and you will see the different cold and hot temp thickness for the same weights.

See the viscosity rating explained below.
