Question About Tire Wear

I have noticed that my front tires are starting to wear on the inside of the tire. I also noticed that they are kind of scalloped. Is this due to a bad alignment? Could it be tie rods being bad.

Certainly worth having the alignment checked and while they are at it... have them check for worn parts. It might be a simple alignment issue. That and every GM truck I have ever owned scalloped the front tires a little.

Same here,I've had 9 GM trucks and they all scalloped the front tires a little,This is why tire rotation EVERY 4-5,000 miles is very important on GM trucks.

Even with the scalloping,I've never had an issue getting 50-60,000 miles out of a set of tires (I run nothing but Goodyear's)

What's a scalloped tire?

no idea, but it must be a slightly positive camber causing an issue.

It's just a term for when the edges wear unevenly (sortof in a zigzag pattern). Every tread block is worn at a slight angle like a series of tiny ramps and if you run your hand over it it is rough.

Not nearly as tasty as scalloped potatoes though.

Mine are also scalloping but it is only on the inside of the tire not the outer, is this what you are talking about or are you referring only to the outer tread which is common I know. What is the cause of the inner wear?

I find it strange to be on the inside tread, maybe I just never have seen it on a chevy before, fords yes all the time.

The last time mine wore on the inside it was camber and toe-in. I like the camber to be close to 0. Seems to work better.

Thanks Don I think I will take it to the dealer and question the wear on the inside of the tire. Maybe they will check the alignment, hopefully.

On my fronts I get a little scalloping on inner, a little more on the outer edges. Like the previous poster said, tire rotations are quite important.
