My Sierra Only Gets 2 Less Mpg Than My Tacoma.

My Tacoma had a 4 cyl and a stick shift and got 20 mpg (drops when towing). My Sierra with a V8 gets 18 mpg (even when I tow). The Tacoma with a V-6 gets less than my Sierra. Why would I even think of selling my truck due to gas prices? My honda Element got 20 mpg as well. I could sell my truck and work at McDonalds I suppose then I wont consume any gas. Calm down people, gas prices only rise at this point when people get all freaked out./Users/peterkosowsky/Desktop/IMG_0076.JPG

That's what boggles my mind about mid-size trucks. Can't haul or tow much, are uncomfortable and cramped, and basically get the same mileage. Who would want that and not have 8 cylinders to listen to?

The owners of these little "truckettes" are militant about how superior they are. Just ask them.

Not necessarily, I own a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 and it is in no way superior to my GMC aside from not being full of safety devices and it is drive by cable. Don't get me wrong I still love it and don't plan on ever getting rid of it but i'll never buy a mid-size truck again. Plus the bed is small it gets ~13mpg with a 4.7L V8 and higher gearing than my GMC. Still is a damn reliable truck though.

The funny part is most people don't realize that these truck get better mileage. Gotta love technology. My new Cadillac EXT with 403 hp gets better mileage than my 345 hp Silverado SS got.

I guess it's all in the newer technology these days. Well, actually a number of GM's have been pretty for mileage in the truck department. I had a 1995 GMC 2500 4x4 with 6.5L Turbo Diesel (6200 #s empty) and regularly got 20mpg with it on the highway if I wasn't pushing it. My neighbors 1994 Chev 2x4 350 gets 20 mpg as well. Some were thirstier of course but I'd say that's not to bad for the older stuff.

I agree, I got out of the mid sized truck stuff 5 yrs ago, and will never go back. I get 1mpg less with my silverado, and it 100x better to drive.

Wow -- good timing.

I was looking at both the Taco and the Silverado/Sierra. I was pretty astounded that the mpg didn't differ a lot more. The Taco cheats a bit with a 5 speed auto that actually gets better mpg than stick, but it's still not worth the 2-3 mpg for a small truck. The Silverado is actually a lot cheaper right now ($2-3K) --- I can buy a lot of gas for that!

I looked at a Taco extended cab and when the salesman showed me the rear seats I chuckled; I have a 7 year old, and he would be cramped.

Should have me a Sierra by the end of the week!

Had a '99 Dakota with the 5.2L V8. Loved the truck, but got WORSE gas mileage (mid 13's, EPA rated 12 city and 16 hwy) than my GMC. My little Ranger was only 2 mpg or so better on the hwy and the same in the city.

I won't go back to minitrucks unless they make me :ughdance:

Congrats on the new truck. I'm glad you went with American made.

Agreed.

Agreed as well. For example the Tacoma, the best selling mid-size truck for years. But for less money (rebates, etc) you can get a well equiped Tundra or Silverado. Much more truck for the money.

"Truckettes" :uhoh: That is a good one that I have never heard. I will file that right over there next to ""pantyline" and "TuRD" and use it often.

My girlfriend's grandfather just bought a brand new Colorado this weekend. He is 78 yrs old, 5'7" tall and 130lbs. It just seems to be a good fit for him :rollin: He test drove a Malibu but had trouble getting out of it. I think my Silverado would be too tall and just too much truck for a guy like him. He's had an S-10 for years and I don't think he wanted to give up having a truck :uhoh:
