I was sitting down here thinking, and something ran across my mind. All these environmentalists complain about all these gas guzzling vehicles we drive, and so they want to go and buy their Priuses, and let everyone know where they stand. But thing about it is, if they really were worried about waste, they would just buy a used vehicle.

You have to use power to run these factories, so wouldn't it just make more sense to buy a vehicle that would otherwise just be sitting around rather than making a factory run more to produce yet another car?

This makes it crystal clear to me that virtually everyone that drives a Prius is either driving one because "everyone" else is, or they are just following trends or because they just want that image that they are saving the environment. Sure, you do have buyers where that isn't the case, but with the premium you pay over a similarly equipped gas powered vehicle, does it really pay off?

IMO, most people with hybrids it is for the image, not because they think they are saving the earth.

I think it's all a moot point. In 1961 the Soviets detonated the largest nuclear bomb ever. Things like that cause more pollution than anything. Boats that haul crates from China to the United States burn more fuel that any of us could ever use in our lifetimes. I think people buy Prius's for the purpose of making people like us that drive trucks feel guilty.

I agree, not only that, but what about the additional energy it takes to produce the batteries? And what do you do with all that nickel cadmium or lithiom when the batteries die? Not to mention mining for nickel and lithium is dirty, dangerous, (like all mining) and expensive. I saw a show on the history channel a month or so ago about batteries. According to the show, 99% of a lead acid (like most cars have now) battery is recycleable and therefore recycled. Nickel cadmium? 8 percent. Lithium Ion? Less then 1%. I just dont get it. A prius will save gas, yes. But at the expensive of what?

Who knows, maybe people just like ugly cars that will entomb them if they hit something larger than a penguin.

EDIT: Looking at it again, I don't even think that is a Prius. But you can about imagine what something like that would do to one.

Not that I am a big fan of the show South Park, because I think it is to vulger. But if you can find it on the web or dvd, go watch the episode on electric cars, and how the owners love the smell of their own farts.

No, I think that was when everyone became Atheists.

Some are probably driving a Prius because of the increased MPG, and some are driving a Prius because they are tree hugging hippies.....and as someone mentioned earlier, do the hippies, um, I mean "environmentalists" realize that these wonderful batteries that the Prius use will eventually have an impact on the evoronment when it comes time to dispose of them?

P.S. SOUTH PARK ROCKS

The whole MPG thing doesn't really fly though. You are paying all the money you would save up front, therefore, those people fall into my "trend followers."
