2005 2500hd Silverado Issues

recently bought a lly 2500hd duramax, ~6 wks ago.

 

couple of weeks after i bought it the 'service brake system' message came up on the dic, this occured after a emergency highway speed stop during a rainy day, message cam on again today(warm and sunny). had it to dealer before i bought it to get a check over(~$250, 5 hrs labour only) and all was fine prior to sale. after the dic message came up i brought it to the used car(subaru dealer) lot i bought it from and they checked her out and replaced a rear axle seal. the truck had a new set of brakes(rotor and pad) prior to sale, truck has been undercoated every year and has ~110000km, all dealer servicing to now and hasnt been problematic according to service record. i spoke to orginal owner prior to sale and he said truck was problem free, no mods except for trailer brake controler which has since been removed.

 

ive checked with a odbii reader, but that doesnt interact with the abs computer, correct? where is the problem likely to be? the truck is operationally ok and i have a protection plan so the problem will be covered, i hope.

the same as rustproofing. krown, rustcheck are some of the notables that provide the service here. the dealers also offer it as a package. effectivly you spray the underside with a petro product to prevent rust from settling in.

Do you have to get it sprayed on when the truck is new or can it be put on at any time? I have noticed some rust under my truck when it was on the lift.

works best if applied when truck is newer, aplication is usualy repeated annually before the winter and use of ice controllers on the highways. costs about $200 here for an application and usually carries a warranty against rust issues.

Is your booster leaking under the hood? You will see fluid on the driver side fender well. Thats what causes my 04 to say the Service Brake System every once in awhile.

nothing obvious, the fluid level is ok and there isnt anything is the truck operationally that would indicate an issue. the message and lights came on 3x's, twice within 24 hours on fathers day(wet rainy day) and once yesterday(humid sunny summers day). within the last 2 months the truck has a complete brake job and wheel alignment with 2 inner tie rods ends, and was check out by the chevy dealer before purchase.

 

i searched the forums here and elsewhere and it seems as if a low voltage return to the abs unit can cause this, is it possible that the removal of the trailer brake controler could cause this? the brake controler was installed and removed by a chevy dealer and with the execption of the transfer inspection only the local chevy dealer has service it. otherwise ive heard that i may be chasing a bad ground somewhere in the truck and it may become a bit of a hit or a miss unless there is definitive cause like the leak 98silvz71 mentioned.

 

i do have the extended protetion plan for another 55k or 3 yrs so im not worried about the cost of the repair. is there anything else to watch for with these lly's from 2005?

Some vehicles sometimes need to be hooked up to a hand held trouble code shooter and have codes cleared. When instances like hitting the breaks hard could in fact spawn a trouble code. I remember that happening to my Ranger years ago. I'm not really if that would be the case here, but it was with me on a different brand vehicle at one time. Also once I had a service light stay on and had to have it removed with that plug in hand held trouble shooter device, it said that I redlined the truck. Earlier that week I was doing some off raoding in the mud and was kinda hard on the truck.

i thought that also, i have an obdii/can reader and there are no mil or dtc issues, but i dont think the abs computer communicates with the obdii system, i think another system is used to touble shoot abs among other computers in the truck...
