Its called a stretch strap. I have seen those things do some amazing recoverys....

Notice the maximum vehicle weight. You could pull a John Deere with that thing....

You almost could envision a VW pulling a semi out of a mudhole if you ever saw one work.

Of course, a nice little supercharged engine pulling on it helps.....

Agreed. I've still got mine from when i wheeled the jeep. They're a life saver. You can pull another vehicle out with them where you'd just spin your wheels with a regular chain/rope. Little cheaper than a winch too

You should see what they do the the front end of a truck when they snap. Watched an oil company pulling out a stuck semi. It destroyed the radiator, most of the fiberglass hood, and the passenger side windshield, before it punched a BIG dent in the back of the cab. Driver of the stuck truck saw it break, he was laying on the floor of the truck when it went through the cab.

A strap did that? With the looped ends? I can see one with the metal hooks on the end doing that kind of damage, but not a snatch strap with the looped cloth ends...

Me and the boys in the Jeep Club did some amazing things with those straps. Still have a couple somewhere...at least i hope I do and didn't let them go with the CJ when I sold it

It tore off at the pull truck end, about a foot from the end. Had about 40 feet of momentum. Yeah it was just a loop end strap, it was 12" wide rated for 100,000 lbs vehicle. LOTS of strap, lots of stretch, lots momentum. Driver of the damaged truck was pretty white when he got out.

wow! that's a HEFTY recovery strap! most of ours are in the 25-30k pound rating, but then we were pulling out jeeps and pickups, not big rigs. :D Never seen one break, but we also had very strick rules about people being nowhere near them during a pull for exactly that reason.

The front end must've been pretty worn out and ripped off whatever the strap was connected to...I've pulled out some stuck service trucks by their I-beam front ends before, but never really had to snatch em cause it was on pavement. Just stuck the truck (and yes, it was my 1500 with a 5.3) in 4-LO, tightened up the strap, then revved up slowly to the sweet spot in the torque curve and it'll roll em right out.
