Anyone Use The Thermal/heat Tape To Wrap Exhaust Mani/pipes?

Greetings,

Tried to do a search on this but came up with an error.

Anyone use the thermal heat tape on their exhaust manifold pipes? Does it keep the engine cooler?

Is it worth doing?

Thanks for the replies.

I'm having second thoughts on this

I found this site:

I've always wondered wrapping these pipes up would increase the oxidation by moisture and the heating/cooling of the pipes.

My truck already has the metal plate shields that surround the exhst. manifold. Good for deflecting the heat away but still allowing air flow around the pipes...guess I'll stick with that.

On a side note: Would using the heat tape be good for wrapping sparks plug connectors where they connect tospark plugs near manifold. Do they also keep heat out or away from a source? Also what about wrapping parts of the AC lines to increase effenciency of the AC?

GM designed in enough features to keep various components insulated from heat to where they will last a long time. Spark plug wires and boots are designed to handle the heat radiating from the block and heads. The A/C lines are insulated under the rubber coating and the refirgerant doesn't travel far enough to make a big difference in temps.

Basically, it's not worth the time, effort and cost to worry about it. You would not see any appreciable or noticable improvement.

rip out your entire exhaust and install ceramic coated headers and everything else T304 stainless steel from the header back (with high flow cats) and you will see a cooler engine bay  (but it aint gonna be cheap).

The tape will work but I would not trust it for more than a couple of years.
