Which Clutch For My 4.8 5 Speed?

Ok guys i'm not looking to spend alot. A new from GM at my cost is $290. Napa wants $390 and i can get an Exedy clutch off the Auction site for like $150. Does anybody have experience with those? i just want to know if it'll be ok in my truck. it's a 4x4 regular cab stepside with the 4.8 V8 and 5 speed. i just want to make sure an Exedy is an ok clutch. I know of people putting them in cars like my Corvette so i'm just kinda curious. I do mostly highway miles and it tow's sometimes, usually a boat or sometimes a car trailer but that's more rare. Thanks so much. I just want to make sure it'll be fine and other peoples input. I know it's a GM site and most will say stay stock but idk if i'm gonna have the extra $$$ right now so i'd like to get the best deal i can. Thanks~Cole~

Actually, most people here would say "DON'T stay stock" haha...I'd look at Kevlar-lined clutches if you want something heavy duty, I'm considering doing one for my '80 mud truck with granny 4 speed and FACTORY clutch (unchanged far as I know)...

You should be able to get a clutch kit locally for $225.00 or so. If you are talking about your 2000 model, I'd make sure and replace the clutch, pressure plate and release bearing all at once. Nothing good will come from taking a shortcut and just installing a new clutch disk. (although I have seen this done many times)

Also, carefully inspect the flywheel. It may have stress cracks in it, or be warped. It prudent to have it machined, or at least checked by a machine shop. It you install a new clutch with a warped flywheel, you will have very annoying clutch chatter when engaging the clutch. I would also replace the rear main seal at the same time.

Thanks guys. The kit i'm getting replaces the pressureplate, disc, throwout, pilot and i will be putting in a new slave as well. I just want to know if a Exedy is a good clutch. Luk is the other i was looking at. Everybody local wants $300+ for a clutch. Ebay seems to be the best deal so far. The flywheel will be going into a machine shop when it's done. I'm paying to have this done because i don't have the lift to do the install myself otherwise i would. Thanks much guys, just mostly wonderin' which clutches are ok and which to avoid:D
