Gm Regular Cab Vs Ford Regular Cab

I recently looked at a new 2008 Ford F150 pickup with regular cab and I was surprised that they have small quarter doors on either side to access the extra space behind the seat. There is also a package tray behind the seat for toolboxes, grocery bags, etc. Compared to the GM regular cab, this one seemed a lot more functional. as GM regular cab trucks have very little to no space behind the seat. I did not care much for the very deep cargo bed on Ford trucks(= hard access from sides), however. On the plus side, they provide rear tailgate lock standard even on the most basic work trucks, as well as ABS 4 wheel disc brakes.

 

BTW, I stopped to look at this Ford truck because they had new 2008s advertised for $ 11,999 and I saw one parked in front of this Ford dealership. This price for a truck with a 5 speed manual, 4.2 liter V6, and A/C. Nothing fancy, but a nice work truck for the money. If you want a manual transmission, you cannot get one from GM on a full size truck anymore, so it is either Ford or Dodge.

It seems to me, that with that much room behind the seat, it couldn't be a rc. I'm not saying it isn't, it just seems strange to me, and I've alway's had rclb trucks. I guess I do have a lot of crap stored behind my seat though.

The rc F-150 does in fact have rear opening doors. The dodge also has quite a bit of room behing the seats of their rc trucks. It's the GM trucks with no room back there.

Yep, the RCLB F150 has a little more space behind the seats and more importantly the space is usable because of the little door. The truck is also @ 6 inches longer in overall length (RCLB models) and heavier. This truck is a solid product but extra length was a deal-killer as the truck was too long to shut the garage door.

 

Just make sure the small motor has enough grunt for your needs. The F150 I looked at was a 4.6L V8/automatic/3.55 diff and struggled some on hills. The 3.9L V6/manual Dodge Ram I test-drove a few years ago couldn't get out of it's own way. I used to have a 4 cyl./manual Dakota that made both these trucks feel sluggish.

Yes, that 4.2 V6 felt a little anemic, but I think it was mostly due to high rear end gearing on that particular truck. It would do much better with a 3.55 axle I think.

Weren't you looking at an '07 classic DMax? What changed?

All you have to do is drive both of them. The decision is made for you. There is a HUGE difference between the two trucks.

 

For 09 Ford is dropping the tiny, rattling, wind noisy rear doors on the regular cab. Must not have been one of their "better ideas"

Plus it looks like balls! If you want room behind the front seats get an extended cab; not half of an extended cab. Just my opinion though…

Nothing changed. I can look at things, can't I? Not really serious about buying a basic Ford work truck.

Maybe it is different on the 1500 series but in my truck I have quite a bit of room behind the seats.

buddy of mine has an 06 chevy WT Reg Cab.

 

Many moons ago I owned an F150 RC (1991).

 

My old F150 had a bit of space behind the bench. I will go so far as to say it was semi-useful, and you could toss small things back there.

 

My buddies truck has NO useful space behind the seats, as he put it, N-U-N none. I think a RC should always have 4-6inches of space behind the seats when they are all the way back...

I've never understood that either.

 

I really liked my GMT800 RCSB. It had enough room behind the seat for jumper cables, rope, tarp straps, a tarp, couple quarts of oil, baseball bat, baseball glove . . . I had alot of stuff back there.

 

That being said, I think on a regular cab truck, you need a tonneau cover if you ever plan on traveling with it. There is no room for bags or things like that. Especially if you are going Christmas shopping or grocery shopping or anything like that.

they could not give me a ford! The interier just sucks, comfort was not in the design plans. It doesnt even look comfortable. I was in a loaded F-250, and it still felt like a work truck. I am not that crazy about the truck as a whole inside or out!
