Fuel Filter

Is there a fuel filter on the 2007 NBS trucks? What is it disguised as? I have been looking for one for awhile and feel dumb or blind. I have been in the habit of changing fuel filters at 10-15K, and I don't think gas is all "clean" now that is is expensive.

I think that what is in the tank is just a strainer, not a true fuel filter. And what is this about "nonserviceable"? It is ridiculous that GM would actually eliminate something as important as a fuel filter from their trucks. Another brilliant suggestion by some dufus worthy of a $ 20k bonus check?

Actually the fuel filter on these trucks is disguised as a bowtie or GMC logo on your grille.

Maybe so but according to my reading material there is no serviceable fuel filter. It's integral with the fuel pump assy. I have not seen one apart to confirm this but it is becoming very common on a lot of new vehicles. Probably not an issue anyway... Our fuel source is very clean. I've never had a fuel filter issue in 30 plus years and many many miles.

Well there is always one of those days when you fuel your vehicle just after the tanker truck has dumped the load into the gas station holding tanks and disturbed all of the sediment, which is now free to enter your gas tank. Supposedly most gas station pumps have filters, but I am not so sure. I have seen some real black goo come out of my brother's Nissan Maxima fuel filter when I changed it last.

The GMT900 trucks make use of a proprietary coating on the inside of the fuel lines designed to trap dirt and other contaminants. The insides of the fuel lines have been coated with the same material used in models with the cloth seating option. This new ultra-attractive material traps and holds any and all debris to the walls of the lines and keeps your fuel system running nice and clean for the life of the vehicle!

Supposedly most gas station pumps have filters, but I am not so sure. I have seen some real black goo come out of my brother's Nissan Maxima fuel filter when I changed it last.

All pumps are required to be filtered and they are on a maintenance schedule. This of course does not mean that the Mom and Pop stores do the maintenance. I only buy from one of a few selected high volume new gas outlets. I won't stop at an out of the way store for fuel. A lot of people will just stop anywhere... I'm sure your chance of getting crappy fuel increases tenfold by doing so.

I was waiting in the DMV for a registration, sitting next to a guy who serviced pumps for fuel stations. Got to talking about the filters and he told me Mobil is on a corporate filter replacement schedule. They need to document the filters being changed. He said most others are supposed to change them at certain intervals but don't have to document it. He also told me Citgo has no policy so it is up to the owner/manager to decide. He said he had seen some really bad filters in place at Citgo.
