Battery Age

I recently bought an '03 Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab. I'm assuming the Delco battery is original but I can not find any type of date code. With the battery coming up on 5 yrs. old (if it is original) I'd like to replace it before it goes belly-up when it's 10 degrees outside. Is there any way to tell when this battery was manufactured/put into service?

Ideally there is a sticker on the battery top that has the year and month when it was put into service, but if that is gone I do not think there is anyway to determine its age. If you have doubts about it, then I would replace it so you know that you will have a good to go battery and not be left dead on a chilly morning.

As long as you don't notice any problems (harder starts) with the battery I wouldn't worry about it. Our 03 (built 09/02) had the original battery in it and it was just fine. The little sight glass on top will let you know when you need to get a new one.

I've had batteries go dead with the green sight glass still showing green. You need to test the battery under load which most autopart chains can do. That will read the output while under load and let you know if it's not delivering the rated amps.

mine is JUNK

 

i found a battery called "The Worker" 850 CCA's and 1050 CA's its friggen big and its only $75 bucks with a 36 month warranty..
