Cluster Question

Hi,

I just bought a 2008 Crew Cab Silverado 1500, with the LS trim level. I have what the manual refers to as the Basic Instrument Cluster (4 Gauges). They also mention the 6 gauge Premium Cluster in the manual. My question is, is there a difference in the actual typeface of the gauges? The cluster I have looks very bland. I was wondering if the premium cluster has a more pleasing typeface? The reason I ask is that my folks have a fairly loaded 2007 Tahoe, and the instrument cluster looks more appealing to me.

This is one of those weird things that annoys you deal :)

Thanks!

You can probably just swap the clusters out if you want. I've been looking into swapping my cluster for an Escalade cluster but decided that I'd rather make a payment or two instead.

You can use the premium cluster in your truck with the upgraded silver/chrome bezel. It comes in all the LT's

Fantastic. Thanks for the replies. Now where would one find a premium cluster? Ebay?

I searched around on gmpartsdirect for a bit, but was unsuccessful.

I asked gmpartsdirect about this and they said GM doesn't offer standalone clusters. I guess I will have tohunt on Ebay.

There is a site that sells OEM clusters, but I can't remember the damn name right now and it ain't bookmarked on my laptop...But I may be getting the Z71 cluster down the line.

Found one (Z71)- http://www.electrasource.com/servlet/the-2...strument/Detail

Premium (LTZ I think)- http://www.electrasource.com/servlet/the-2...r-Metric/Detail

Ah, good find. Although, I did find one on Ebay for cheaper, so I snagged it up :(

I've been researching swapping a WT cluster with a 6 gauge. I found info on gmparts direct under the 2007 Silverado nbs section in the parts catalog. It shows what appears to be 6 gauge panels for the slt with and w/o the deluxe package. Both are reasonably priced around $185.00. The panels look to be the same shape in both illustrations, but the bezel is different for the deluxe. My main concern would be whether the new cluster would be "plug and play" or if different oil and alt. senders would be necessary for the additional gauges.

It's plug n play, BUT you will have to get the new cluster programmed with the current odometer and hourmeter numbers, which are stored on the cluster itself.

I plan on getting the Z71 one, it's like 3rd or 4th in line after tuning and new air intake....

I'm so mad... the cluster I won off Ebay was pictured to be a deluxe version 6 gauge that comes in the LT's. The guy sent me a 6 gauge basic cluster. Why would I want to purchase the same thing. Argh, now I have to go through the PayPal resolution process. Damn it.

Did the picture say "not exact item being sold" or something along those lines? Hope you didn't miss the fine print, that's always the first thing I look for.

Nope, there were no such disclaimers. And he also didn't use a stock GM photo like some people do, he used a picture that he, or someone else had taken of the cluster on his table.
