Gm 2 Way Remote Start

Just a heads up if anyone is looking at adding GM advanced remote start, don't I wouldn't recommend it. If I was GM I wouldn't even advertise this worthless item, I guess they think its advanced because the factory one is completely worthless, I don't know what they were thinking. Lets concentrate on a system with some range and functionality instead of checking the odometer, tire inflation, fuel level and time, I could careless about any of those, just start the damn truck already. I'm going to relocate the antenna up onto the top portion of the rear glass instead of where its at, hopefully that will increase some range. I should have know better, apparently others on here bleed GM and were happy with this "gadget" that is nothing more than a toy. When I seen the size of the remote I should have run far... far... away. I had a Ford parts one in my last truck (2005 F150) and it was great, 18 min runtime, no limit to the restarts, and excellent range. BAD BAD GM

So I am reading "between the lines" that your major gripe is the range (or lack thereof).

I mean, initially they advertised up to 1000 feet (w/o obstructions). I recall a Trucks! show where they did a "test" where a guy walked 1000' down the road and started it (i know, no obstructions, clear LOS).

May be a dumb question, but before you start ripping antennas all over the place, are ya SURE the battery in the unit is fresh. Just because it CAME with it doesn't mean it is good.

I remember the unit having an LCD display. Could be that thing works a little harder on batteries than the "unit of the masses". I have the factory remote start / control unit. 18 months, and battery still seems to work like it did the first day. The factory one I have has pretty decent range. Will start my truck from fairly reasonable distanced IMHO.

I don't have it myself, I resisted the (ridiculously high) temptation, then I guess the novelty wore off and a new muffler/CAI/Window tint/DuHa/Tune etc.etc. seemed like a better idea.... :D

(BTW, yeah, folks here bleed GM, but it IS a GM forum, and NO we are not all blind fools either. Most folks here fairly call a spade a spade, but are fair in their assessment)

Well Said! I have the factory option it works well for myself.

Did you search this topic before purchasing because there were many people, even some bleeders, who stated this was over-hyped by the marketing department and that the functionality was not all that much better than the factory system.

Yep, I avoided the hype and held off and am glad I did. My factory system works fine for me since I park anywhere from 10-50 feet from the door I enter, which is about 25 feet from my office.

My factory remote start works very well. Its range surprises me sometimes. I try it occasionally from deep inside buildings with my truck a good distance and a lot of walls away and it still starts. It also starts every morning from inside my loft to my spot in the parking garage which is at least 100' away.

has anyone had this problem when you use the remote in cold weather the heater doesn't always come on. when i'm at work for some reason the seats will heat up and the blower is on with the lowest setting with no heat. when i'm at home or anywhere else seats are hot and the heater blowing on high with hot air ...weird ..

Sorry to hijack this thread but has anyone installed the 2 way remote themselves and had the dealer program it??

I want to install it myself.....where does the antenna go on a extended cab ?? and where is the RCDLR located?

Do I have to remove the rear seat to install the antenna?

I can't find much info on this and my dealer has never installed one!

Thanks

How long do you leave it running? I say this because it will not start blowing hard until the truck has started to heat up, so it is not blowing cool air.

When using remote start the HVAC system will pick up where it left off when the vehicle was turned off. If you had the heated seats on and the blower on high, when the truck is started remotely those exact seting will be followed. If they were off, they will be off when started remotely as well. Does this make sense?

Sorry Daddy, your not quite right. If your talking about the factory remote, it works according to the temperature. If its cold out, it turns on ur heat, rear defrost/heated mirrors, and heated seats and the colder it is the higher the heat will be on. True is the same for when its hot out, it turns on your A/C and adjusts it according to how hot it is outside.

To add what has just been stated the heat will only come on when the truck is able to produce heat, so if the engine is cold the heat will not come on untill it is warmed and able to send heat. Otherwise the heated seats will come on when it is cold outside. Now if you drive the truck and warm up the engine then shut down such as a short stop at a store and then do a remote start and it is cold outside the heated seats and the heat will be on when you get in the truck.

I hope that helps, It has taken me a few weeks to figure this out and read the manual, I find the manual is sometimes not very well written to convey knowlege as to how something really works, just tells ya what will happen/supposed to happen. It fails to list the conditions as to when and what will happen and why; in my opinion. I hope this helps.

In the remote start dept.

I have the standard remote start and the distance my truck works is awesome more than 200 feet and with other cars/trucks that truely obsruct the line of sight and it will work fine for me. :) I too would check the battery and maybe the install quality; maybe a faulty unit? The dealer has to reprogram the truck to use the new remote system; no matter what/who installed the system did that happen?

Your dealer can be your friend in getting this solved, try giving them a shot they may know the solution and or can phone home to the general for help. My dealer had to that with my truck on the day I got it; had a weird problem but they fixed it, took a full week but in the end it was fixed and runs great now. but during that week i had a loaner car and was a nice car but it was too low to get in and out of and hurt my back it was so low but a nice car.

I hope you get your problems get solved and sorry your stuff does not work as expected.

+1

But when you enter the vehicle and insert your key, it will then revert back to previous settings and turn off the heated seats.
