4x4 Hum

I have a 05 sierra z71 with 80000 kms, is it normal to feel or hear a hum when 4x4 and auto 4x4 are engaged. I can feel it thru steering wheel and on floor, almost like a gear to gear feel

No it is not normal to hear or feel this noise when in 4x4. Mine also does this. I beleive it is either the carrier bearings or it is gear whine. Not really sure but I have driven many other trucks the same as ours and most do not have this noise.

It is not normal. It could be the carrier bearing or an incorrect back lash. If you are within your warranty, I would have it check out.

mine's made that noise/feeling ever since I've owned it (at 50,000 miles). I've taken it to the dealer 3 times and every time they claim it's the normal sound of the gears turning. I've got nearly 80,000 miles on it now and nothing has blown yet....but I get a bad feeling every time I put it in 4X4
