Tune Up-- Performance Or Stock Parts?

My 2000 Silverado is pushin a little over 109000 miles and i dont believe its had a tune up, so i think im gonna give it one. Have any of you used performance plugs and wires? Do they live up to the hype enough to be worth the extra cost? Also, what do you all believe should be done as part of a tune up? Im definatly going with plugs, wires, and fuel filter.

If you are happy with the trucks performance thus far, I would replace with stock. At 109,000 mi the stock parts seem to have served you quite well. Plugs, wires, fuel filter. That about covers it (I assume you've done air filter already!). You might have PCV valve, I don't know when they took out the replaceable valves (I think it was after 2000).

Ive only had the truck for 4,000 miles, but it doesnt appear a tune up has been done on it. Im putting on a K&N cold air tomorrow, so that alieviates the need for a replacable air filter. Ive heard people talking about how good these performance plugs and wires are, but i dont want to spend the moeny if they arnt. I get a pretty sizable discount here at my local napa, so im probably going to get my stuff from there. I believe they only have stock stuff for my truck. I dont really want to order from the internet and pay retail for performance when i dont have to, but if it adds hp and tq im all for it

Just get regular plugs and wires. Unless you're running a huge cam, a blower, etc, you're going to see exactly squat for improvement over stock type.

My trucks got the small v-8, the 4.8. I was thinking a little heavier wires and the best plugs i can buy thru napa will probably be the best. The k&n is goin on tomorrow, my Christmas gift, and ive already installed Hypertech's MaxEnergy programmer. I believe later on down the line i may do a complete exhaust job, with true duals including headers, but it will be a while before the cash gets saved up for that project. I may also do a throttle body spacer, if it would help. What are your oppinions on it?

Any body have specs on the blackbear tune? 2000 Silverado 4.8L 4x4. Maybe a price too??

Yeah, email him here, he'll be happy to answer your questions. A custom tune is far superior to any programmer such as the Hypertech Max Energy you have. I'm in the process of having my tune made right now. You'll have to wait in line a few months, but it's well worth it.

ok, so at 119,000 miles if finally decided im going to do a tune upj this weekend. Ive talked to several good mechanics around where i live and they all say they woudlnt recommend replacing the wires, since i dont have a misfire code. They arnt that long and dont look bad. I think a new set is around $50 or so. Would u guys do it or not? Im doing iridium plugs, pcv valve, cabin air and fuel filters. Coolant and transmission fluid look good. Anything else?

your truck will run better with the oem ACDelco platinum plugs than with anything else ...... for the plugs, stick with the ACDelco
