Steady Check Engine Light On After I Opened And Closed Hood

My 2008 Sierra has never had the check engine light on until today. I opened the hood for 2 minutes and didn't touch anything. I then closed it and tried to remote start it. When remote start failed, I got inside the truck to turn it on to see if the "hood open" light was on, preventing the remote start. It wasn't on, but a steady check engine light was on. I tried opening the hood and closing it twice more, checked gas cap, etc, and the check engine light would not go off.

 

Any ideas? Is there a way to check the code in the DIC without using a scan tool?

go to auto zone or a place like that they will scan it for free. Prob a gas cap, the dealer told me if the gas cap was the cause for the check engine light it doesnt always clear right away. this is just what i have heard i dont know if it is fact or fiction

You didnt do anything there is a electrical problem just call customer assistance # (its in your owners manual & free) have the vehicle picked up and fixed its under warranty.
