I have been looking around in this forum for about a year now and only recently added a few posts. I've been welcomed by a few hardcore forum-ers (thank you), but I haven't introduced myself here.

I emmigrated about a year ago from Holland to Ontario (Canada) and finally got the chance to buy a GMC truck (details are in my sig). I absolutely love it and I must say, it is a lot better then I expected.

As you might know, it it totally (and socially) unacceptable to drive trucks like these in Europe. They don't even sell them anymore, apart from some gray (non official) imports.

If you drive them there, you are (litterally) banned from cities and towns, you are also treated like anti social outcast, as if you are trying to destroy our planet single handedly. You are not even allowed to park the truck, not that it would fit on a standard European parking spot.

Not only the fact that a truck is perceived as not exactly enviromentally friendly, also the overall negative image of everything American makes it almost impossible to enjoy it. Maybe I should start a topic about this subject.

Needless to say, I don't agree. I enjoy everything with wheels and engines.

How do people tow and haul things there?

well, they don't ...

They use tiny ordinary cars to haul little trailers and stuff. It seems to me that everything is smaller in Europe anyway.

Tradesmen use minivans, white ones at that.

So nobody owns boats?

Nope. It's a good idea though, 80% of Holland is below sea level, protected by flimsy dykes. A boat might come in handy some day

Welcome! Nice truck and the FJ40 is very nice too. The thing in the middle, well... :dunno:

Thanks, I took the FJ40 with me when we moved. I have owned it for almost 10 years. It is now restored and mint.

Glad to hear not all Europeans are wacko lunatics!

Welcome

I must disagree with you, they are. One of the reasons that made us descide to emmigrate. :nono:
