My step sis got this unit for x-mas and asked me to install it into her 04 Mountaineer/Explorer. I have never done a head unit. It came from Crutchfield and they advertise that it comes with everything needed. How much of a job will this be? I am pretty mechanical, but just need a heads up.

Thanks!

Should be simple, as long as it came from Crutchfield, they provide (or should) all the Master Sheets & everything you need to slide it in.

I picked up a similar screen the other day (pioneer AVIC - F90BT) and I havn't decided if I want to try this install on my own or not. The wiring harness is well labeled but it does look pretty complicated, for my electrical skills anyway...I'm gonna go through the install manual here in a little bit......It might not help for your specific application but "Truckin'" wrote up a technical article to install one of these screens into a silverado a few months ago and I believe those are available online also.

Good luck

I installed the F90BT in my Silverado...it was not difficult if you've installed a stereo before.

excellent... I think you talked me into doing myself

How do you like it?

I think my AVIC-D3 is the only major component I haven't installed myself in the truck, simply because I took one look at the harness and gave up...In hindsight it's not really too bad as you should have the master wiring sheet anyways, connect x to x, y to y, etc. If you do have any problems, the guys at avic411.com is pretty knowledgeable about that, even though most of the cars there are imports...

its ok, there is some lag time when you start the car before the system starts up and music plays. It takes maybe 15 seconds for music to come on from the last source you used and about a minute for full startup including pairing with your phone and full functionality. Its a great unit when its started up, but the lag on startup gets annoying.

I just installed a Pioneer DEH-P7000BT on Christmas day. Got it from Crutchfield. It was rediculously easy to install. Bluetooth automatically connects with my cell phone quickly, have all of my music in the glove box on a usb thumbdrive and it sounds awesome.
