I opened the hood today to replace my air filter and noticed a disconected wire. What does it do? Also, could I please have the part number so that I can get it replaced?

Its a ground wire, and yes it fastens to that stud. :D

Any ground wire or cable will do. just go to Autozane, or Advanced Auto pts and pick one up of the correct length.

The ground wire allows the hood to become part of the shielding from EMI (static to us lay-people) and help the vehicle meet standards established on EMI. Remember back when a car driving down the street would cause static on your TV? This is one of the many things on your truck designed to reduce EMI.

Just make one of your own. It's simple.

I suggested he get one from an auto parts store. Thats what I did. The stock one is real flimsy. thats why his is broken. I believe the one I replaced mine with is 4 gage. Its not ever going to break.

I looked in my collision parts catalogue, and in gmpartsdirect.com catalogue. Neither one list a hood to firewall ground strap or part #.

I guess this one is in MS3DALEs hands.

Have a good one,

I think the fact that you were driving down the road with rabbit-ears hanging out the window is what was causing your static

J/K...I've never heard of this phenomena, when did it happen?
